annoyed with my therapy need to whine

Post by mgaggie » Sun Apr 05, 2015 9:06 pm

According to sleepyhead my mask is leaking way too much, I'll fix leaks when I notice them but its obvious many are happening when I'm asleep. My AHI is usually below 1. I like the hybrid mask as it feels comfortable and I can read a book while wearing it

I still feel tired and the only real benefit I've found from using my APAP is I don't have to visit the loo so often at night. I was hoping I could work out these problems, and not come here and whinge about them (my stubbornness coming through). I haven't seen my respiratory specialist in a year, so I will go back and see him soon. I'm a bit afraid that if I complain I'm still tired that my drivers license maybe suspended and I would be truly stuffed as I have to drive 50mins to work and there is no public transport here what so ever.

Anyway, thanks for letting me vent

I don't know how tired you are but In my opinion if you are so tired you are falling asleep at the wheel you shouldn't be driving at all, for your sake and the sake of others. For the leaks have you tried chin up strips? They work great for me.

I don't fall asleep at the wheel, if I did I wouldn't drive.

I want to die in my sleep like my uncle, not like the others in the car that were screaming!

Well then I don't really think you should worry that your license will be suspended, I can't imagine that complaining about being tired would result in you losing your license.

I only get sleepy at the wheel if I have to wake up early eg before 7 am. So I've changed my work hours to start in the afternoon. When I say I feel tired I mean I don't wake up feeling refreshed, there is always some degree of feeling I could do with more sleep.

I worry about loosing my license because I would lose so much independence, and I hate having to rely on others

Problem: Your mask leaks
Solution: Go to RT and find a mask that doesn't leak

Just do it

I can read and wear my reading glasses with the Resmed F10 full face mask on. It doesn't have anything that goes on your forehead.

Thanks for the suggestion winnie, I'll look into that mask.

Wildboar if only it were that easy. 1. In Australia masks are usually double or even triple the cost that you guys pay. I don't have $300+ just laying around to try a mask, and no I haven't found anywhere in my state that allows returns on medical equipment unless faulty.

My health insurance lumps psychology and medical equipment together and will only pay out a certain amount per year. There is no such thing as meeting a deductible here (except for hospital stays). The stupid sods refused to pay for my apap machine I got in December because I was supposed to wait 12 months from joining to buy it before being covered (I was only 10 months in)

Why does life have to be so complicated?

Masks are for sleeping...why do you wear it for reading?

I fall asleep while reading. It is the only way I can get to sleep.

I'm far from expert, but if your AHI is below 1, doesn't that mean that the leaks aren't affecting the therapy much? Is your sleep continuous? Or do you have periods of insomnia? Is there maybe another cause for your tiredness?

You are right fishy. I am a bit of an insomniac. I'm thinking there is another cause to my tiredness, will have to go and raise merry hell with the doctors to get some answers. Thank you.

I like to read in bed, often I will fall asleep when reading so it makes sense to mask up while reading.

Thanks everyone
