Charts for my first week with new machine - how am I doing?

Post by yaconsult » Wed Feb 04, 2015 4:16 pm

I am happy to post zooms for any areas that need more detail - just tell me the date, time, and length you need to see.
I seem to be still having a lot of snoring, right? Should I be considering raising my minimum pressure from 12 to 13 or 14?
On the 31st, the 1st, and the 2nd I used a chinstrap but on the other nights, I did not. One of the things I'm trying to figure out is whether or not I need the chinstrap.

Looks good so far, including the 0.0! Leaks could use a little work. How do you feel?

Looks like you nailed it. Wish my reports were that good. Don't do a thing, but keep going.

If you really want something to worry about, I'm sure someone can find something. Otherwise forget about it1

Looks good to me too. I sure wouldn't worry about using a chin strap at this point. I have worse leak reports and I won't use a chin strap for them. I don't give "time over red line single digit %" much more than a second glance as long as I slept well.

For the snores...they aren't horrible by any means but if they are waking you up or bugging you too much I suspect that a modest 0.5 cm increase in that minimum would reduce them further...but there is no urgent need just based on the numbers by themselves. I wouldn't do anything for a little while further and see if things settle down with more time and experience.
The amount of snores shown here aren't alarming though. Looks like the time frame for them seems fairly consistent which makes me think REM stage sleep maybe or perhaps supine sleeping. Now if you were seeing clusters like that all night long it might be a different story.

Thank you, folks! This interpretation and sharing of knowledge and experience is awesome! This machine does seem more comfortable than my old Remstar 510M. I have only used the A-Flex 3 setting so far. I think that I am sleeping better and feeling better.

So, maybe I might try raising the minimum slightly to 12.5 to see if it affects the snoring or not? I didn't see much difference between chin strap or not so I don't think I tend to mouth breathe. Doing so isn't that easy when the minimum pressure is 12, I suspect. I use the Breeze nasal headgear and added the standard leak rates for it to my signature.

I do sleep on my back sometimes. It's hard to tell, but I would estimate that I probably spend about a third of the time on either side and the last third on the back. Also, don't the sleep study results below indicate about the same AHI on back or side for me? It's great having so much SleepHead data to look at. I only wish that our doctors were as interested in studying it as we are!

And it's all relative, isn't it? I mean, it's got to look terrific compared to my sleep study done just last month:
RESPIRATORY ANALYSIS: (index = #/hr)
Apnea/Hypopnea Index (AHI): 80.2
*AHI 4% or greater: 62.4
NREM AHI: 80.2
REM AHI: -
Non-Supine AHI: 77.0
Supine AHI: 81.9
Respiratory Disturbance Index (RDI): 80.8
NREM RDI: 80.8
REM RDI: -

Apneas (index, #): 58.8 (96)
Obstructive Apneas (index, #): 47.1 (77)
Mixed Apneas (index, #): 0.0 (0)
Central Apneas (index, #): 11.6 (19)
Hypopneas (index, #): 21.4 (35)
RERAs (index, #): 0.6 (1)

Yep....your AHI is ugly no matter which sleep position.
No REM data...maybe no REM during the sleep study because things were so bad in Non REM you never got to REM.

And yes...terrific results when compared to no cpap use.
Just keep up the good work.

How does one go about learning how to read the graphs and numbers? I downloaded Sleepyhead software last night but I am lost as to what all of the data means. Is there a place on this site where I can learn? Thanks for any help anyone can give me.

If you're not part of the solution you're just scumming up the bottom of the beaker!

Get the Clinicians manual here : http://apneaboard.com/adjust-cpap-press ... tup-manual

Yes, that's it exactly. If I ever start to fall asleep without cpap, I gasp/snore myself awake. There is no sleep possible for me without cpap - that's why I use it 100% of the time. I am very lucky that I didn't have a car accident before getting on cpap. I diagnosed myself using a voice-operated dictation recorder next to the bed. Then I contacted the doctor, got an examination and a sleep study. She was pushing me toward having a port installed in my throat, but I wanted to try the cpap first.

So many apnea sufferers are totally unaware that they have it. There need to be public service messages or something.
