Re: Changed my filter for the first time
My strategy is to look at the filter every weekend, and when the old one looks too much dirtier than the new one,
I put in the new one. This old house is old, stuff happens, and drifts around, got to keep the spirits happy and clean.
My hypoallergenic filters go two or three weeks, then they look icky.

Re: Changed my filter for the first time
I just compare the existing S9 filter (i use the hypoallergenic ones) with a new one every couple of weeks and change it when it looks gray by comparison - seems to be about every 3-5 weeks but not sure what causes the variation... started in June

been there, done thatParalel wrote:I thought they were substantially similar between the two machines. Sorry about that, my bad, I apologize.
I did a bit of googling, and found that the resmed filter is 3.054 square inches, the PRS1 filter is 1.53 square inches.
the resmed filter is able to better use the full area because there are standoffs to hold the filter away from the intake hole, whereas the prs1 pretty much has very little relief behind the filter before the round intake hole, so it can't use as much of the filter as effectively.

Re: Changed my filter for the first time
That link points to Resmed, and even shows an S9 on the page, so how is this different that the OP's current machine? Not trying to raise a ruckus, just curious why you say it's for an entirely different machine.palerider wrote:in this particular instance, you should ignore paralel, because he's talking about a different brand of machine, with a tiny little filter that's about 1/3rd (correction:1/2) the size of the resmed filters....Paul_H wrote:Paralel wrote:Larger/Thicker grey foam filter = 6 months
Thinner White Filter = 2 weeks - 1 months
If you left the white filter in for 6 months you may have harmed your machine and/or shortened its life since it had to exert significantly more effort to pull air through that cruddy white filter that was so badly clogged. The machines are not meant to have to work so hard under such conditions.
I didn't realize there were two kinds of filters for the S9. The people who sold me the machine certainly didn't mention anything about that. If there's been damage done to the machine, it is now done, and no point in me worrying about it. It still works perfectly. I'll stay on top of it in the future, now that I know. Thanks for the information.
there are two kinds of filters for the S9, the regular one, and the hypoallergenic one, they're both white.
Also, did you notice that the info on that link says to replace the mask cushion every 15 days? Does that seem a bit extreme to anyone else?
As far as replacing filters, I had to replace mine every 2 weeks in west Texas. Now that I'm back in Dallas, there lasting at least a couple months before I notice any discoloration. I compare them to my new filters so that I can see any slight color change.

paralel is referring to the philips respironics filter setup, where it comes with a thick grey foam filter, or an optional thin white filter.digitalepiphany wrote:That link points to Resmed, and even shows an S9 on the page, so how is this different that the OP's current machine? the OP has a resmed machine, which does not have a foam filter, instead having a white filter and optional white high performance filter.
that's why.

Re: Changed my filter for the first time
Well, his info about replacing it every month was still accurate. According to Resmed's marketing department, that is.
Thanks for the info.

Re: Changed my filter for the first time
What I'm saying is that the link he posted was for Resmed. It even showed the S9. According to the link, they suggest replacing the filter every month. Whether it's just marketing or not is irrelevant. It's still Resmed's suggestion to replace once a month.
Granted, the different filters he referred to were for a different machine, but the info on that link is for Resmed.

Re: Changed my filter for the first time
To simplify things...check filters each week or two, replace or clean as they seem to need it. This is less brand specific than common sense, and SHOULD work with pretty much any machine. No wonder my son refers to me as "MOTO" (Master Of The Obvious).

what I'm saying is that the person you quoted didn't paste a link, he stated the correct filter change routine for his machine, which is a different than what the OP uses.digitalepiphany wrote:What I'm saying is that the link he posted was for Resmed. if you want to comment on another post, then it'd be less confusing if you'd quote the one you're referring to, and not something that says something totally different.
please go look in the back of the manual, to see what resmed's suggestion is, as is quoted above from the current autoset manual.... how you want to reconcile the different recommendations that resmed makes in re filter replacement is up to you.
