Crapria strikes again... (issues with getting machine)

Post by JeffV » Thu Nov 13, 2014 1:12 pm

Welp... everything online has told me, and everyone here (pretty much) tried to shoo me away... I am getting pretty extraordinarily fed up with Apria. (As everyone here recoils in shock.)

On 10/29 they called to say that they were processing my order for the 560. They required a credit card. I initially told them no, then figured out a (mostly acceptable) way to do it and called them back (literally an hour later) and said okay. They reinstated the order and said I should hear something by 11/4.

Nothing.

On 11/6 I called them to check the status. After being routed to the wrong department and put on hold for a sum total of over an hour, I was told that the CPAP "pod" was working on it and would contact me.

Nada.

Today (11/13) I called again to check the status. (Only waited on hold for about 30 seconds - be still my beating heart.) Apparently my order was cancelled on 10/29 at my request. She's re-keying the order and I should be hearing from the EQ department (what the heck is that?) within 24 hours.

%$@^)$ *@#% %#^!#~

I was told point-blank on 10/29 that my order had been reinstated and was in process. I spoke to three different people on 11/6, none of whom said anything about any issues whatsoever with my order. I'm no doctor, but at some point don't the effects of increased stress and blood pressure from GETTING the machine overtake the benefits of prescribing the damned thing in the first place? sigh...

No real questions at this point, just venting... unless some sort of miracle happens tomorrow, I'm going to spend part of a day next week calling other DMEs. Might as well keep trying for now, since if I wind up buying the machine outright I'd be waiting until after the first of the year to do it (I'll have an HSA next year I could use to buy it; this year I don't).

First of all, so sorry you are going through this.

If it were me, I would be calling the insurance company and getting a list of other DME's you can work with and start calling them to see what your options are. IF Crapria comes through with something tomorrow you could still stick with them but at least you would have some of the groundwork done in the event they don't come through tomorrow.

Edited to add: on further thought, I would be seriously looking for another DME. Any DME this incompetent before you even get a machine, is probably going to be a huge headache to work with in the future. I say this because my current DME bent over backwards to make me happy in order to win my business but after I got my machine the level of customer service (or lack thereof) has been horrible. If this DME is this much trouble before they even get your business, I shudder to think what they will be like after you sign on the dotted line with them.

Wow that is just terrible service... My DME never asked me for a credit card information. What insurance do you have? Maybe you can contact them to get a list of local DME's.

With all you know, and eyes wide open, you are still working with them.

I wouldn't waste another minute. Contact your insurance to see if there are other DME's in your network. They will need time to get your sleep study and script from the doc or lab. If there is more than one I would contact all of them to get them started. This all takes time - a month is not unusual.

If no one else is in network check craigslist - think I would do that anyway so you know your options.

Man...I'm glad I don't have Crapria...it sounds like a "bend over and grab your ankles" type of company. May as well just buy stuff out of pocket instead of dealing with them. Which is, I'm sure, what they would LOVE...high premiums, and no one using their coverage. Bastages.

You talk like Aprea is an insurance company...they are not...they are a DME. If you buy out of pocket, they do not earn any money. Why would they love that????

My DR prefers these @#$%@#$% people. So far they have been just a little bit of a pain. Anyhow, I should get my new machine tomorrow. Even though the insurance covered 100% (we met out out of pocket max this year) they still "required" a credit card to be on file. They said it was to cover future orders. I went ahead and gave it just to get the machine here.

Yes, they are a pain.

I gave them my card at first, but when I changed cards (Target ),
I decided they didn't really need it, so when they asked for the number of the new card, I declined.
Later, I fired them.

you could also use "Home Depot" to get a new card
If you're not part of the solution you're just scumming up the bottom of the beaker!

Apria has been discussed before. The experience seems to vary regionally. I'm on the West coast and Apria has been perfection. Friendly people, supplies arrive is as little as two days.

No, I don't work for them and have no interest in Apria.

You do realize they will provide the machine w/o a credit card? Future orders will be dealt with in the future.

It is their Corp. answer to those who are wise to them.

Just tell them you don't have a credit card.

Ha! Just learned a new term "CRAPRIA" Like

We have had that shittiest service in any lifetime history of any medical care of 60+ years. Latest SNAFU? Crapria recommends, and delivers a Swift™ FX Nano Nasal CPAP Mask with Headgear... and now when we're asking for parts and replacement... "Sorry, we don't carry that product. You might shop around at cpaptalk.com"

We are West Coast Washington State

How frustrating. We're leaving for 5 months in rural Mexico and very worried that this current mask will break down and need replacing in that period.

Related: What IS the life-span of one of these masks, re: degradation of neoprene, plastics, etc?
