CPAP and vacation
CPAP and vacation
I've been on CPAP for about a month. I'm going on vacation and really don't want to have to travel with it. What do you think? I'll be gone for 8 days.

I'm a newbie too (less than 2 weeks) but I'm taking my CPAP on a 5-day trip next month. I'm anxious to keep my progress going.
I say take it!

I'm always shocked when I read a post like this. It's hard to believe you're serious.
If you were an insulin dependent diabetic would you consider giving yourself an 8 day vacation from taking your insulin?
Heck, maybe I've been suckered in...

Re: CPAP and vacation
I travel with mine almost every weekend. One time I forgot the cord from the wall outlet to the voltage converter. I thought no big deal... but spent a miserable night and found a cord at Radio Shack the next AM that could be modified to work.
Try going to bed without it tonight and then decide if you can do without for 8 days.

Re: CPAP and vacation
I have been using CPAP for 2.5 years. I have slept without it for 2hrs in that time. I regret taking that nap without my CPAP but watching NAPCAR just has that affect on me.
circumstances may force you to go without your CPAP, but never intentionally sleep without it. Use it whenever you sleep: on vacation or before you audience with the Pope.

Re: CPAP and vacation
I agree with the others...take it along. Heck, if you travel often, it's too bulky and finances allow, look into a smaller unit for travel so you can leave the main unit at home.

Take it with you and use it. I take mine on one night trips.Lostfan1 wrote:I've been on CPAP for about a month. I'm going on vacation and really don't want to have to travel with it. What do you think? I'll be gone for 8 days.
Your health is the main reason to take it with you. However if your insurance is paying for your machine and it's only been about a month you are most likely still in the compliance period where you will have to prove usage or they won't pay.

I'm about on my 5th week or so of CPAP and last week was our vacation. I took it with me and used it for those wonderful vacation naps as well.

Re: CPAP and vacation
So do you want to feel like crap for 8 days? How much did you /will you pay for this vacation? Do you want to enjoy your time or spend it feeling wrecked and napping all the time? Do you want the others to spend their vacation with a crabby tired annoying person?I've been on CPAP for about a month. I'm going on vacation and really don't want to have to travel with it. What do you think? I'll be gone for 8 days.

Re: CPAP and vacation
Yay for you!
I took my 4 day old machine to a 3-day consortium related to work.
I was more able to concentrate, learn and schmooze like never before.
It was no more difficult to use in a hotel than at home.
I duck tape a scrunchie to the headboard so I won't miss my home-made hose crane.

Re: CPAP and vacation
Take it. You may already know this, but airlines let you travel with it for free. It's medical equipment and not counted as a carryon. Just don't put anything but breathing equipment in that bag. Take an extension cord because you never know the outlet situation at your destination.

Re: CPAP and vacation
As others have said, take it with you. I have taken my machine to several states, at least three other countries, and a 7 day cruise. I won't sleep without it.
As has already been suggested, I also highly recommend packing a basic extension cord. You never know where the closest plug will be.
