49er: I'm feeling ok, i guess, still a little tired. Could this be because I feel as though i'm competing against the nasal mask for air, when going to sleep? (feels almost as though the air is not coming thru' fast enough [when i lift the mask to check or check the vent there is enough air coming thru'])

anyone else experience this?

Come on forum users!
I'm out in South Africa. My medical aid has been used up completely. So up until next year, I can't even try any other "sleep" specialist (if there are any in SA)! I have an ENT (ear, nose and throat) that diagnosed me with OSA! This dude cold hardly read the sleep study report (he struggled to find the AHI figure), which was sent to him by the "Sleep Clinic". The Dr that is responsible for the sleep study has a receptionist that handles the sleep studies which is outsourced... even the CPAP machine they supply is outsourced (not DevilBliss). So I’ve got a lot of people involved with my case (ENT, Secretary, Sleep study nurse, technician that converts data from memory stick to readable data and the CPAP supplier), none of them have made recommendations that have been beneficial to me. I had to fork out the cash to pay for my CPAP machine. I chose the Devilbliss, purely because of the 3 year warrantee (apparently no other machine has a 3 year warrantee). I figured if it has a 3 year warrantee, it must be a good machine.

Since being on this forum, I’ve noticed an improvement. My AHI has dropped from 24 to now 4, which definitely indicate an improvement.

So Forum users, all I’m looking to get out of this is some real life experience from other OSA sufferers like myself (that use the same or similar CPAP devices) on how to manage this OSA.

alexchetty, I sent you a PM. And I am sure other people will respond when they see your message.

Mr. Concerned, alexchetty just said his aid is all used up until next year and currently can't find a doctor. Any suggestion for him? Perhaps you can help him find a nearby competent professional in South African since you're so concerned about anyone getting advice on the internet.

Well here is a bit of uncharacteristic sarcasm from me. I hope I do it correctly.

Uh-hem. "Well 49er. He has your PM. What use could he possibly have for a doctor? After all, he is much better off in your care than he is in the hands of qualified professionals because..." Insert reasons here "So why not diagnose him and prescribe treatment? Make sure you take a history from him so you can find out what medications he is on and what pr-existing conditions he might have. You may want to start a chart on him as well in case he returns to you for further aid in the future."

@Alexchetty: Please ignore the troll; probably his first (and last) night on the night shift.
Most of us here share our experience with xpap, and support when needed.
Many of us are condemned to dealing with doctors who don't fully understand apnea;
and equipment providers who are more concerned with making money than providing useful assistance.
We do the best we can; and share what has worked with others in the same boat.
Most of us are not doctors, but we are grateful for help given us in the past, and wish to pay it forward.

Mr Concerned - I don't know if you will be back or not. I am wondering though - are you a doctor (maybe a Sleep Specialist) , a DME or someone from a forum that disagrees with the freedom we enjoy on this forum?

We are simply a group of people who have sleep apnea and have been through the trials an tribulations of adjusting to life using a cpap machine, sharing our experience with newly diagnosed people who are not getting enough help from their Sleep Specialists, Doctors or DME suppliers.

If some of these PAID professionals feel threatened by the FREE advice offered here,
let them look to their own shortcomings, rather than attack a community of patients.

Unfortunately, Mr. Concerned has no interest in doing that or listening to reason. His only purpose is to be an asshole and disrupt this forum.

--Note: AHI has increased again.
--maybe my body is adjusting to the change (first night on the new pressure setting).
--I seem to be feeling a lot better than i did yesterday, lets see how the day progresses.

I am some one who is actually from THIS forum. But it is very silly to ask some one who he is when he has obviously gone through a lot of effort to conceal his identity. I can understand your curiosity but please understand my position. This is not about me. This is about unlicensed medicine being practiced on the internet. The kind of thing which causes irreparable harm to others.

You need not tell me that you have never practiced medicine here on these forums and I suspect you know full well that I have not done it here on these forums either. So my presence here, much like yours, is not the issue.
