These 2 are old but still accurate especially since the machine technology now is even more profoundly improved.

There is also a study where machine scored data was compared to in lab by a tech scored data and the results were really close.
I can't remember where that link is though. Any of the forum veterans remember it?

Other than the sleep vs awake thing...I think that the new machines due a real good job reporting what they are sensing.

That is like saying that your car will only get 35MPG sometimes and the rest of the time run 20MPG...(Same road, same speed , same time of day, same time of the year...for the nickpickers...))

IF the sensors are so unreliable they cannot be trusted to get good daily reports HOW can they give good long term reports??

AND AS I run a ASV machine I am putting my life (so to speak) in the hands of these very same sensors....

Clearly, as people become dependent on such software, they get frustrated. That does not mean that they do not appreciate what the author has done, even though -- through frustration -- they do not express that appreciation.

One problem with any OSA software is that -- according to my sleep doc, who works with equipment manufacturers -- the accuracy of the sensors in the machinery is questionable. He says that -- in essence -- daily numbers should be taken with a grain of salt, although trends may be significant. Only compliance data is accurate.

I have not been able to find any specs that either back his allegation or are contrary to it. Have you seen any?

Not even close! It's like saying "I got 26.783 MPG yesterday and 26.493 MPG last week, but over that past year, it dropped from about 30 to about 26." It's the latter that's reliable.

I just want to chime in and say how good it is to hear from you Mark. I have missed you and have wondered how you are doing. This sleep apnea stuff is a struggle all on its own, without complications. I do pray you will soon get relief, take care of yourself.

Thank you again for Sleepyhead, it is an extremely valuable product and it has helped so many, including me. You are a blessing to the forum, and to your family. I wish you the best.

Karen

I just want to say thank you for making Sleepyhead. I love the little lamb graphic and absolutely love being able to look at my own data rather than wait months for the dr to print out a short report on things. And glad that it works on a Mac since that is all that we have. So thank you so very much!

I hope you feel better soon!

I think the only program I use more than Sleepyhead is Facebook. I will be forever thankful for all your hard work you have put into Sleepyhead.....especially since you did a Mac version!!!!

Mark I too am very grateful for your efforts...

Get well and see if you can patch this up.

If I did not love it so much I would not been so upset.

Resmed claims their central sleep apnea detection (CSAD) is pretty decent:

I also want to thank you for Sleepyhead. It's very comforting to know that I can check out my data. I hope that your health problems resolve quickly.

Hi Mark, so sorry to hear you're having some hard times, but don't worry about us, we'll survive just fine even with some of the bugs in your amazing software! There's always Encore and ResScan to use for backup when in doubt until you can get back to work on SH. It's so much more useful but your health comes first.

Dori... I have, but I've never been able to make heads or tails of it. Never made a bit of sense... and just sounds so wrong. If you feel up to explaining it, go for it.
