Overnight results and software question
Overnight results and software question
I was checking my results from 16 nights of CPAP use and now have some questions. My AHI average for the period is 3.3 (AI .4), and for last night it was 3.7 (AI .6). Pressure for any period shows at 8.0, which is what the machine is set for. This makes me wonder if I might get better results from a slightly higher pressure. Thoughts?
Also, I have a ResMed S7 Elite and have the current ResScan software. I am having trouble accessing the machine data. I am using Windows XP on a Mac Mini, and a DB9 female-female adaptor with a serial to USB cable to connect to the S7. Windows seems to think the connection is ok, but the ResScan software can't find the S7. Any ideas?
Thanks.

A higher pressure may or may not help. Can you get data off the machine to post here? That would sow the whole picture of what is going on, including leaks, etc.

That is all the data I can get right now, unless I can find a way to get my ResScan software to recognize my CPAP machine.

OK. There is certainly no harm in trying some small incremental increases to see if it helps. When I was starting out and self-titrating I increased my pressure by .5 (or at higher levels .2, .4. .6 etc) every couple of nights and review the resulting effect on my AHI and how I felt.

Re: Overnight results and software question
If I remember some Older Resmed machines tended to score H's high, I would shoot for the obstructive reading, trying to get it under 2.0.
I don't do Resmed, so I'm not sure Ai is if it means Obstruction event .4 would be good to go. Jim

Thanks all. I think I'm going to call ResMed and ask some questions.
I'm also thinking about getting an new machine. Maybe a compact auto that's easy to travel with.

Re: Overnight results and software question
I think that you need a null-modem cable in there. The DB9 to USB cable may or may not be one.
Basically, a straight-through cable is one in which each pin (on the male end) is connected to
the corresponding socket (on the female end.) A null-modem cable is one where certain connection
are crossed between ends. This allows for transmit on one end to be connected to receive on the other.
Just like on a phone where the mouthpiece (transmitter) on one end is connected to the earpiece (reciever)
on the other.
(In the old days, when computer connections were made using modems, this crossover was handled
by the modems (and the network between them.) The null-modem cable was so named because it performed
this modem function without the presence of a modem.)

Re: Overnight results and software question
I got a null modem to USB cable not long after I started this thread and I've been able to access ResScan via VM Fusion on my Mac without problems.
My results vary quite a bit from night to night. My AI is usually around 0, but my HI bounces around a lot, as does my leak rate. I sleep well and feel tons better, but I would like to lower my HI and my leak rates, but I'm not going to go crazy to do either.

Great! Why not post some of your results, if you're inclined?Mr19 wrote:I got a null modem to USB cable not long after I started this thread and I've been able to access ResScan via VM Fusion on my Mac without problems.

Re: Overnight results and software question
The older Resmed xPAP units used a different scoring approach to the current models, so your S7 HI score would probably come out at around ~1.5 on a contemporary xPAP machine.Mr19 wrote:but I would like to lower my HI and my leak rates, but I'm not going to go crazy to do either.
There's probably not a great deal of point on working too hard in that, especially as your AI is quite low
Cheers,
Bill

I tend to agree. My AI is nice and low, so I think it's best not to obsess over the other stuff too much.billbolton wrote:The older Resmed xPAP units used a different scoring approach to the current models, so your S7 HI score would probably come out at around ~1.5 on a contemporary xPAP machine.Mr19 wrote:but I would like to lower my HI and my leak rates, but I'm not going to go crazy to do either.
