Quality of sleep - how often do you clean?

Post by Hogsrul » Mon Jun 24, 2013 4:16 pm

Does anyone notice that not cleaning the machine for a few days to a week makes a difference in their sleep? Maybe it's my imagination, but it seems like I'm more groggy I'd I don't clean my machine at least once every three days or so.

Thoughts?

I never clean my humidifier or hose and I sleep just fine. Sleep problems are not a result of not cleaning your machine unless you don't use distilled water, don't change filters and live in a dirty home.

I'm curious about what parts and how you do cleaning? Can you please comment a little about that?

Thanks.

By the way, I haven't noticed any difference, since I only do a thorough cleaning (humidifier tank, climateline hose, mask hose, and nasal pillows) once a week. On the other hand, I wipe off the nasal pillows and let the humidifier tank sit empty so that it dries every day. If I don't wipe off the nasal pillows thoroughly every day, I get more leaks.

Not an issue. I check filters weekly and clean my humidifier once per week.

I personally empty my tank out everyday and lay it on a towel upside down. I wash my pillow every night wash my hose out once a week. Clean my foam once a week and replace my fine filter when it shows dirt. I found if I don't disconnect my hose, that part of the hose and the connection stays fogged up all day. Then I do the vinegar/water cleaning once every 1 1/2 to two months.

I wash the hose, humidifier, mask and tubing daily. I have an S9 and clean the lid seal for the humidifier every week. Check the filter every few weeks and change as needed.
I might be a germaphobe but damm it's going up my nose!

I clean my tank once a week with disinfectant dish washing soap, the hose every two weeks, the mask daily, change my filter once a month and so forth. I think that's about the average for folks on this site. Some never touch a thing and others do their system cleaning daily. I don't think there's anything written in stone, but do what feels right for you.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

Filters? No one ever told me about that. Where is it?

There's a small rectangular filter on the back side of the machine. It snaps in and
out. Be sure to put it back with the same side in as when you took it out.

I was thinking about this recently. I generally wipe down my nasal pillow every day with CPAP wipes. I empty out my humidifier tank and let it dry out a couple of times a week. I generally wash everything every two weeks. When I travel, I usually wash everything upon my return, as I worry more about what gets into the machine from hotel rooms, etc.

I clean the hoses every two weeks. I empty the humidifier every day and rinse it out. I clean the filter every 2 weeks. I wipe the mask and hose ends daily with baby wipes.

Why on earth would cleaning my machine make any difference on my sleep? I slept for years without it. Never needed a filter for that. Nor than the weekly change of sheets did I need to clean the bedding. Why would it make any difference with my CPAP/BiPAP/ASV unit? Fact is, I just don't clean them that often. I'll wipe out the mask periodically (every other week or so). I change components / filters more frequently than I clean them.

Dumb question...what is the best way to clean your hose?

It's the little plastic cover/door on the backside of your machine. The filter is where the air enters the machine and the filter filters the contaminates in the air. The little door works like the battery cover on your tv remote. The filter is a little white mesh-type material. I change mine every 2 weeks, but monthly would probably be ok. Look in your manual. Do it now...
