Grateful for your help..can't depend on Doc!!

Post by Dreamingofsleep » Fri Apr 26, 2013 9:45 pm

Well, I was supposed to go to my doc for my follow up, so I did. Her office, as usual lost the read out of the SD card, which was actually sent several weeks ago and then again last Friday. So, I said I would call DME and ask that it be sent again, and doc said she would call with results. That was this past Monday...no call. If I didn't have the software you guys lined me up with (Encore Basic) and your input, I'd have not a clue of how well my CPAP is working. Yeah, I have more energy than I did, but still not where I want to be and still waking at night. So, I would not know for sure.

Just want to say "thank you" again for all your help!! Interesting...the DME won't even let me carry my print out to doc...afraid I might read it and ask questions I guess

Well, at least you CAN do it yourself--bypass the middleman, they obviously are hopelessly incompetent.
I hope your doc realizes that. Looking for a new doctor is such a pain--but it can save your life.

Hey Chunky, (love frogs too by the way)
I just have an internist here. The pulmo guys are a couple of hours a way, and so I go to internist. She may be ok..it's staff that lose everything. I really don't know if she knows her stuff or not, because as I said I got no call back It is frustrating too because she is so busy it takes a couple of months to get in to see her!

And for this Americans pay the highest amount per capita for healthcare by far.

Amen! I almost wonder if it would be better to have a CNP instead. It seems like they are more attentive, even though less educated.

I hear ya! My sleep doc isn't horrible, but since giving me a machine 3/27 (before titration), not one call just to see how it's going or if I had any questions.

Most doctors are worthless. They are basically over-paid pill-pushers these days.

Dreamingofsleep, I found that doc offices that don't allow testing or information to be seen by the patient tend to run unnecessary tests and or lead the patient to believe things that are not true about their health. (Why I just changed primary care docs). I just found out that I DO NOT have liver disease. (Thank goodness!) But I never saw the actual test results, I was just told . . .and had follow expensive follow up appointments made with a specialist that I didn't need to see.

So. . .forewarned is forearmed.

No I didn't expect it. I have been directing my personal health care for years because doctors are not anything close to what they used to be. We're all just client #'s to them. I personally love when I see a doctor and they cram my case history into their head the first 2 minutes of my visit ... in front of me no less.

I worked with a doc once, he was going to "show me" how to get a visit and dictation done in 15minutes, the required time:
He looked and typed on his computer for 2 minutes, glancing toward patient intermittently
The patient meanwhile is describing the cough and phlegm he has had for the past 4 months
The doctor finishes typing and looks at patient and says "so, have you had any cough or phlegm?"
I would have walked out, the patient stayed. Cant believe it.

I think that NP and PAs seem to want to spend more time and have a more open mind. So while they may not have all the fancy education that the MDs have...they often have more common sense and are willing to think outside the box more.
That's really all that is needed to make most cpap stuff work. Common sense...which it seems like a lot of MDs only have in short supply.

My sleep doc has the personality of a tree stump but has a PA that is awesome to work with. I would gladly work with her any day of the week over him.
