masks for side sleepers

Post by njk » Sun Apr 07, 2013 5:58 pm

I need recommendations for a CPAP mask for side sleepers. I don't like the two nasal pillows that go int the nostril's openings. I can use a single pillow for the nose or a regular CPAP mask. I don't need a full face. Would love to heart your recommendations for a good night's sleep. Thanks!

I know your not looking for full face, but I sleep comfortably on my side with the mirage quattro ffm.

Maybe it's actually your bed pillow that you need to change.
Some pillows are designed for this therapy and some others just work better than others.

I've been using the Chiroflow (also known as Mediflow) which is a water-based pillow.......long before I started this therapy and it's worked great for me since I started eight years ago.

Sleepweaver Elan. Simplyme's little strap technique works great on it too.

Mask matters less. Success lies in how you manage the mask.

Hmm, maybe I can marry my Wisp to the Tap Pap.
The wisp silicone headgear is like sticking my face in a giant bobby pin.
Maybe a narrow face with less flatness would like it better.
I really like the cushion, though,

The ResMed Activa nasal mask, or the PR True Blue nasal mask.

It's a shame you don't like the nose pillows cause I started cpap aout 6 weeks ago and have found they are far and away the best option for me - and I sleep only on my side(s). I use the Swift FX nose pillows and my AHI is routinely 1.0 or less using them - including two nights of a perfect 0.0 reading.

If use a nasal mask as a back up but find my AHI rises to as high as 2.46. For me it's largely an issue of leaks, I can't get a nasal mask under control and full face is out of the question - much worse.

Good luck in your experimentation.

I started cpap around the same time. I also use the Swift FX nose pillows and have very similar results to dos coyotes. I sleep mostly in my side too even though I can finally sleep on my back if I wish. Just wanted to add my experience with the Swift Piilows.

I know you said you didn't like pillows but I love my RespCare (Innomed) Universal Hybrid mask. It's a combo of pillows and oral cushion that surrounds the mouth, so it's classified as a FFM. I never sleep on my back. Works well from light to high pressures for many here.

Maybe that is your problem when using the nasal pillows .... They are NOT supposed to go inside the nostril, They basically lean up against them with just the very tip ending up inside as they inflate. If yours are going inside then you are using too small a pillow.

I find the swift fx to be a rare one that allows me to side sleep comfortably.

The Pilairo was probably better in having fewer leaks, but for me was not as comfortable.

I'm a side sleeper, I could probably use any mask out there with the exception of those 2 total face mask....
