new Wisp mask?
Re: new Wisp mask?
I've been using this mask for a week and I think I'm sending it back.
I'm bummed because I was so excited about it because it's such a smaller profile and I love the design of it.
I'm going to give it another week and then decide for sure. But my issues are that I'm finding I'm having a lot of leaks at the base of my nose. I can't figure out why- I've adjusted everything but nothing is changing that part. Due to me changing the straps and them being so tight and me trying to prevent the leaks it's making my normal migraines worse than they were. I've been using the True Blue gel one before that which I also don't like.
I'm considering trying the Mirage FX or the Eson which I've seen good things on here about.

I use the Eson and Mirage FX for her. The Mirage FX I just got in size small, which is quite a bit smaller than the standard. A shorter nose piece helps it fit much better on my face. I use the Eson primarily because I get a bit less whistling, though rain out in both. But I like the Eson elbow connector MUCH better. Air is directed away from my face and it has more swivel to it.melindy wrote:I'm considering trying the Mirage FX or the Eson which I've seen good things on here about.

Thanks for the input! I've been looking at both a lot but those are both good points in Eson's favor.

I'm going to start trying other masks to see what else works so I'm not limited to the Swift FX Nasal Pillow. I have a mustache and Goatee so I'll be limited. I need to start looking at some of these new ones coming out.

You could take a look at the TAP PAP, it wouldn't be affected by facial hair.Chilimon wrote:I'm going to start trying other masks to see what else works so I'm not limited to the Swift FX Nasal Pillow. Saw that one but not having upper teeth except for a denture ruled that one out. A friend of mine uses a mask that goes over his nose, he said it hinges in the middle and locks in place when he folds it down, I have no idea what he is talking about but he said he loves it and he has a mustache.RogerSC wrote:You could take a look at the TAP PAP, it wouldn't be affected by facial hair.Chilimon wrote:I'm going to start trying other masks to see what else works so I'm not limited to the Swift FX Nasal Pillow. He said it was a triangular shape but the hose does not go up and over. When I see him Monday I am going to ask him what kind it is or show me a picture of it.

Sounds like your tightening your mask too much, It should be barely snug.melindy wrote:I've been using this mask for a week and I think I'm sending it back.

Try this:
1. put mask on then turn machine on
2. pull mask away from face (enough so that the masks seal can fill with air)
3. place mask back over nose and twitch nose to seat mask.
4. adjust straps if needed to make a comfortable fit (If you make an adjustment repeat steps 2-3)
Note: I found for myself that the top straps are slightly tighter than the bottom ones. (Stops any leaks from getting into my eyes and drying them out)
Hope this helps.

Re: new Wisp mask?
Terresac, Sorry it took so long to respond but here goes....
Differences between the Eson and Wisp......
-Eson elbow rotates 360 and has ball joint. No attachment hose.
-Wisp elbow rotates 360, no ball joint, small "leader" attachment hose (about 1 foot)
-Wisp is made by Respironics. If you use a PR System One or better, you can set the "system one resistance" which increases the efficiency of the machine giving you better therapy.
-Eson made by F&P does not. However, you may choose to use set the system resistance to the same setting when using the Eson. I do this because, to me, the effort to breath with both masks is very similar.
-Other brands of machines I don't know about.
-Eson has a forehead support.
-Wisp does not.
-Wisp headgear has a loop on the top strap so you can securely strap the hose over top of head.
-Eson does not have this feature.
-Eson seems to be slightly quieter than the Wisp.
-To me it is easier/more comfortable to sleep on my side with the Wisp. I also seem to maintain a better seal with the Wisp when I'm on my side.
-That's about it. So far I've tried the Wisp, Eson, Comfortgel Blue nasal, Pilaro, and True Blue. At this point, my top 2 are the Wisp and Eson for comfort and effectiveness. Note that I still a noob at this as I've only been using CPAP for about a month. This board has been a great source of information...

Please could you tell me what size Eson you bought? I also use the small in the Mirage FX for Her but was told that I would need a medium in the Eson??
Thanks

I see the Wisp is now available at one of the online vendors (finally)
Maybe soon at our sponsors? (Hope, hope, hope!)

Re: new Wisp mask?
I'm still using this mask, wanted to give it a full try. It's no longer aggravating my migraines but now I seem to be getting leaks. I need to check my data to see if I'm right about that.
It's much more comfortable to sleep in than the true blue gel mask I was using though.

I've been using Wisp for about three weeks now and it is the seventh mask I tried. Finally it's one I can tolerate!
