Going through water too fast on my S9
Going through water too fast on my S9
My S9 set has started going through water faster than ever before... and I don't know why. I'm now getting less than 7 hours from a full tank. I'm using the Mirage Quattro mask, with the Slimline hose that's supposed to manage the temp and humidity level.
Any ideas on what I should check first?
Thanks,
Steve

Re: Going through water too fast on my S9
Check your leaks on your software reports.
Excessive leaks will use up the water quickly.
Otherwise..anything change in regards to room temp or humidity in the ambient air...changed locations and now in a desert?
Did you mean the Climateline hose when you said....if so are you only seeing a temperature control adjustment being available?

Re: Going through water too fast on my S9
When the humidity in the bedroom drops below 25%, there's a good chance mine will run dry.
If the tank is nice and clean, I might sleep right through it. (and wake up with a dry mouth)
If the tank is overdue for cleaning, the smell may wake me.
This leaves me with an ugly dilemma.

It's the Climateline... the one with the automatic feedback to auto control, which I believe is 80 degrees, 80% humidity (if memory serves). I'm still in the same location (waterfront in Maryland), so I can't blame a new desert setting.
I also have a room humidifier going, to keep the ambient humidity around/above 40%. I'm not really sure how to interpret the leak info.

When you look at your software reports do you see much time spent above 24 L/min on the graphs?
If so, leaks are excessive.
With a room humidifier going the ambient humidity should not have changed all that much to cause such an increase in water consumption.
If you can't blame leaks and can't blame ambient humidity and it persists...might want to bring it to the attention of your equipment supplier..just in case.

Thanks, Pugsy... I have my data open now...
A great deal of my time is over the 24 L/min line, but I'm getting a green symbol on mask fit.
It seemed to me that the Quattro had a much more free exhaust set up (more ports), which was the cause.
Do I simply tighten my mask straps a bit?

Re: Going through water too fast on my S9
Large leak has to occur for more than 25% over 24 L/min of the night for Mr Red Frowny face to show up and that's really a lot of excess leak.
I have had night's with a just horrible leak overall...nearly 2 hours spent over 24 L/min and the rest pushing 24 L/min and out of 8 hours..that's not enough to trigger Mr Frowny face.
How's the age on your cushion? Think it might be getting tired and time for a new one?
Consider a mask liner? First reaction is to tighten things but sometimes tighter makes leaks worse...the mask needs that cushion of air to seal optimally and too tight just squishes it down more and it can't "float".

Re: Going through water too fast on my S9
Great info! Ummm.... looking back over the past month's detailed data... I have some good nights, and some lousy ones.
My mask is a just over a month old, so that's probably not it. I've been using the Quattro for about the past year. I have ZERO follow up with my provider. They threw this diagnosis and equipment at me, and it was kind of ... "good luck!".
What little I know about all this, I've learned from folks here on this site.
So... I'm not sure what a mask liner is, so I'll have to look that up.
I now recall that I tightened up the top straps recently, to try to stop some leaking at the bridge of my nose. I'll try softening those a bit, and see what happens.
Thanks again!

Re: Going through water too fast on my S9
Best mask liner that can be washed and used for months and months is from Padacheek
http://www.padacheek.com/PAC_Maskliners.html
You can try a homemade mask liner to get an idea if it would help or not.
Just cut up an old T Shirt.... Outline the mask about an inch or so around the mask and cut a whole in the middle for nose and mouth.
Padacheeks are nice because they can be anchored and won't crawl all over your face.
Disposable liners like Remzzzs are available...might give you an idea how to cut up the T Shirt.

Don't know what pressure you are using but they are especially helpful at higher pressures.

I've been averaging over 3/4 tank per night (6-8 hours) w/ClimateLIne on Auto, so I imagine it would be easy to run out if you're having lots of leaks.

Re: Going through water too fast on my S9
My pressure is 9. I just reprogrammed to enable manual adjustment of humidity. I have it set to 4 right now, just as a starting point.
I just adjusted my straps again, loosening the top ones, and it seems the place I get leaks is right under my eyes (bridge of the nose), and lower in my cheeks (just under my cheek bones). I'll try one of the liners, and see how that goes.
I see the nose pads, too... wondering if that might take up some of the volume around the bridge of my nose, and let me go a little looser on the straps.
