49er: CG, you are too funny with your comments about liberals not trusting doctors and wanting laws passed to limit what they say.
No, I believe what I wrote (which you sloppily misinterpreted and left out the key part):
Liberals either want a law prohibiting the doctor from asking this or a law requiring him to ask this. Liberals don't trust doctors and the common people to be able to work this out among themselves. Liberals believe a central government knows best and should control these things.
49er: Or if you truly believe that, then you are really out in left field.

So was Billy Williams.

49er: I honestly think you write those things just to see if you can get a reaction out of me.
Well yeeeaaah.

Hmm, you don't even have your facts straight about which political party was against physicians being allowed to pass gun laws and you're calling someone a lightweight?

Hint - It was a bipartisan effort.

CG... go back to knitting baby blankets and have your nurse take you out in the air for a bit. Might help restore your brain cells.

Strange comment. I never mentioned any political party.

You must again be confusing ideologies with political parties.

For me it is easy to keep them straight - Tyranny is sponsored by the letters 'D' and 'R'.

Democrats and Republicans are all the same - big government, huge and incomprehensible legislation, big spending, big debt, high taxes, irresponsible fiscally, control of people who want to be free, get me reelected, career politicians, all bad.

Think it through someday when your mind is clearer. We are going to have to quit meeting like this if you don't soon get it straight. (You are getting your lightweight sycophant stirred up.)

Why? Are you off to the nursing home?

I am a Veteran and believe me we Veterans are concerned about the issue. The VA is a government building, and no guns are allowed. Not sure about a gun in a car. I think if you do something wrong and the car is searched, they can confiscate it. This is government property.
.....
But about asking about Veterans "state of mind", this is inaccurate. There was an issue a few years back where a Veteran could be put on the "No Fly, No guns" list if they were judged "mentally incompetent" by a physician. Well, Veterans had a fit. Since then a law was passed and it now requires a court order. This "due process" is as it should be. There are some people (Veteran or not) that should be on the list.
......
I have to backtrack on what I said. I thought the "Veterans and guns - due process" problem was solved but evidently it hasn't.

Change on veterans’ gun rights lights fire
Coburn wants decisions by judge rather than VA for impaired troops Washington
The Washington Times - Dec 3, 2012

From the article I'm not sure what the "as happens currently" is refering to. But I sure don't want the VA docs having the final say in who is on the No-Fly list or able to buy guns.
Didn''t mean to get everyone in an uproar here.
But evidently SNOPES has addressed the Veterans and guns issue.
http://www.snopes.com/politics/guns/medicare.asp

Indeed there are folks (Veterans or not) that should not have guns. And it looks like the VA does have some sort of a judicial (like) proceding before sending notice to Homeland (In)security or the FBI to have their gun rights revoked or put on the NoFly list. It can't come from one VA doctor who had a bad day.

So, I'm not sure what Sen Coburn was yammerinag about, orther than normal polititical rhetoric.

Dang... I've tried to stay away from this post.... I've tried. Looks like I'm gonna have to go to the gun range this weekend. Looks as only the "bad guys" will have weapons now.

"Gun control is using both hands."

Gun control is hitting the target center mass, or where ever the X is, with either hand.

I've yet to be asked by a VA Dr. if I had any guns, but they do ask quite regularly if I have thought about committing suicide. They already know I'm GOOFY!

Gun control is repeatedly hitting within +/- 1" of the bullseye, or a fatal hit first-shot using the "legal means and methods" listed for your hunting permit.

The forms at my doctor asked if there were any guns in my house. I asked for an extra sheet of paper and wrote this in.

My Attitude Towards Guns

A) Guns have only two enemies: rust and politicians.

B) It’s always better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6.

C) Cops carry guns to protect themselves, not you.

D) Never let someone or something that threatens you get inside arms length.

E) Never say “I’ve got a gun.” If you need to use deadly force, the first sound they hear should be the safety clicking off.

F) The average response time of a 911 call is 23 minutes, the response time of a .357 is 1400 feet per second.

G) The most important rule in a gunfight is: Always win – cheat if necessary.

H) Make your attacker advance through a wall of bullets…You may get killed with your own gun, but he’ll have to beat you to death with it, cause it’ll be empty.

I) If you’re in a gun fight:
If you’re not shooting, you should be loading.
If you’re not loading, you should be moving.
If you’re not shooting, moving or loading, you’re probably dead.

J) In a life and death situation, do something…It may be wrong, but do something!

K) If you carry a gun, people call you paranoid. Nonsense! If you have a gun, what do you have to be paranoid about?

L) You can say ‘stop’ or ‘halt’ or any other word, but a large bore muzzle pointed at someone’s head is pretty much a universal language.

M) You cannot save the planet, but you may be able to save yourself and your family.

“Peace is that brief glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading,” — Thomas Jefferson

BTW, I am surprised no one mentioned it in this thread but there is only one part of Obamacare I like.
Seems that Harry Reid, in a rare bout of lucidity, inserted Senate amendment 3276, Sec. 2716, part (c).

Said amendment to Obamacare prohibits the federal government from collecting “any information relating to the lawful ownership or possession of a firearm or ammunition.”

This is interesting about why the CDC should not be involved in gun-related issues - http://www.medpagetoday.com/PublicHealt ... g142281d0r

BTW, this cpaptalk thread was started in April 2011. Anyone know how many millions of new guns have been sold in U.S. since then? They seem to be selling like hotcakes around here. It's surprising how many women have taken CC courses and are packing in the grocery aisles.

@Deadlysleep:
Better not cut in line at the check out!

If asked the same question, I would say,"Maybe; but your name is not on any of my ammo."

Some gun owners have gotten CC permits, so the gun is not lying around the house, waiting for a burglar;
and to deal with said burglar if they come home to a crime scene.
