I then fasten the new "front strap" and "back strap" so that they are on either side of the pointy part of my head.
This (altered) minimal chin strap is much more stable, and will stay in place all night.
It is sad that Resmed has no idea how the human head is shaped. . .
I've never been able to get the Sullivan chin strap to stay in place. It slips around all over my head and wakes me up. It sounds like you finally got yours to work, though. I wish I had some crafty talent like yours.

Yes thats the one. A single strap just like Brett Favre use to wear it. . Its simple and easy, may not be the best for women. Halo made by Tiara is also a good one.

I would consider it with the "Nasal Pillows" I have or my SleepWeaver Elan, but I don't see how it would work out with the Quattro FX FFM as the part that cups at the chin at least by the pics would clearly be in interference with the bottom of the mask unless I'm missing something?

No crafty talent involved; just scissors and courage.

That template is for the Quattro with forehead piece. I think the FX runs a little smaller. That is, if you were between a large and a medium with the template for the Straight Quattro then the correct size with the FX would be a medium. The Fx is designed to ride a little lower on the bridge of your nose. The FX is supposed to come with a plastic measuring device; however, my DME has never given me one.

You can kind of get an idea of sizing by holding the cushion to your face without the frame. It should fit comfortably over the bridge of your nose and the bottom should fall right into that indent between your lip and chin.

There was some talk in your other thread about chin straps. I attached a strap (the bottom of a Halo chin strap) to the upper straps of the FX - just where they attach to the mask, down under my chin/jaw. It wasn't too tight, it kept the mask from riding up, and it kept my mouth from dropping open below the mask. Worked pretty good.

Hi Jay, Thanks again - I replied in the other thread. (nasal pillows last night for me.) Will look into the reports and post shortly to see the difference / trend vs.s the Quattro FX.

Last night's report - back to the Swift Fx Nasal pillows w/ Bella loops:

I think I will be veering away from the FFMs completely. My trends seem much more settled and better sleep quality with the nasal pillows despite whether I mouth breath or not.

CPAP1011 wrote:You will be surprised how having a Chin Strap with a Full face could be more affective. I have heard That the Brett Farve Chinstrap made by Res Med is the best. Since the cushion is only designed to go just below your bottom lip. Chances are that when you reach the REM stage of sleep your jaw will relax even with a full face and cause the bottom lip to slide just below it and cause leaks that increase the amount of air that is blowing and cause you to have snoring events and the main symptom dry mouth.
I'm going to try this. It might help keep the mask in place on my face so it doesn't slide up and let air leak around the bridge of my nose.

Plus, it sounds like it might do away with two of my main issues with the Resmed chinstrap - I'd only need it just tight enough to support my jaw for this so I won't have to crank down on it trying to stop the mouth breathing, and if I put the chinstrap on under the mask is shouldn't slip around all over my head like it usually does.

Thanks for the suggestion! I'm willing to try most anything to get this mask to work for me.

I am fairly new about 21/2 months I started off with the same mask and had the same trouble. I ended up coming back to it though. I couldn't find anything else I liked or that did any better. I came back to the quatro fx and with some trial and error and adjustments it actually turned out to be a good mask for me. Part of the problem at least for me was the head gear was too big. I took a suggestion off of here and put a piece of Velcro under the top strap to keep it in place, as it would slide around while I slept. If I pull the bottom down snug it seems to keep everything in place and leaks to a minimum my average leaks for the night for the last couple weeks is under one with the max leaks under or around ten.

I've all but given up on this mask. I switched off again last night to the Swift FX nasal pillows w/o the bella's and used the full headgear. My pressure stayed between 9.5cm low - 11cm throughout the night despite some large leaks around 3am or so off and on (probably mouth breathing as I can't recall waking to air on my face)

I'm at a loss as to what to do. Try this mask with a liner? Try to get a new Mirage Quattro sized for me (probably large instead of the medium I have)? Stick with the Swift FX and just ignore the mouth breathing? Try a Hybrid mask even though I don't like the complexity looks of them? Try the Aloha or another nasal pillows mask, although this will do nothing in addressing the mouth leaks?

Things I've all but ruled out: Chinstraps... (Can only wear them on occasion as they make me too uncomfortable). Taping....(I have a mustache and would prefer to keep it plus a bit hesitant on some of the horror stories associated with taping)

Results from the Swift FX last night but can't really say I feel any better or worse other than not having to wake up to air shooting out the bridge of my nose ala the Quattro FX:

I still find it odd that I don't get near the number of events recorded NOR the pressure increases via the nasal pillows as opposed to the FFM and don't fully understand what this means.

My suggestion......if you're going to be taking the QFFX back to your DME anyway, why not ask them about just trying on the Hybrid/Liberty while you're there? Look at it in person and see if it's as freaky as it seems to you. You don't have to take it home with you if you don't like it. It may surprise you and actually be comfortable once you put it on.
