Pugsy wrote:...The Pilairo does have some pros to it though. The openings in the inner cones are more "slotted" than the other nasal pillows so if someone has narrow slotted nares...it could be a definite plus over the more oval openings of the other nasal pillows. The inflation and deflation of the pillow I thought would be highly annoying but after a couple of nights that became a non issue. I think the main drawback is that head strap.
I wonder how I would fair with the Pilairo,, hrmmmm I think my nares are more slotted than oval. That is if I'm thinking this right.

Then again my DME thinks I will do better with a FFM which I'm having some very mixed results with.

I would start with the Aloha (not just on my say so but the reviews online, especially cpap.com) , I would proceed to the Opus and than the Pilaro nasal mask. I don't think you'll give up the first one.

I have both Pilairo and Aloha. I had to modify the strap on the Pilairo because of my large head. When first using the Pilairo it gave me sores on my nose and tops of my ears where the straps went. Aloha is really adjustable but matter what I do I get leaks when I turn on my side, so right now I'm preferring the Pilairo.

What benefit do the O-rings provide?

Whever the genius was who came up with the o-ring idea should have patented it. It really works (until last night anyway).

They provide support for the collars. Here are two posts that explain this:

Before I tried the o-rings on my Swift FX, I had a difficult time keeping the pillows in place. The o-rings make them sturdier so they stay in place much more easily.

I've given this a lot of thought over the weekend and I have decided to order..........the Aloha!

Thank you all for the input. I feel good about this choice after all the positive comments on the Aloha from those who've used it.

The order has been placed and the Aloha should ship out today.

The bella has been behaving itself for the most part but I think a little time apart might do us both some good.

The Aloha should be delivered today.

I'm really excited about trying it, but I feel a little disloyal - the bellas and I have been getting along great since that one night of misery. Ah well, fingers crossed that the Aloha is a keeper.

Have a great day everyone.

Make sure to report back on your experience with the Aloha. I'm definitely interested!

I really like the Aloha, it's definitely a keeper. Lightweight, comfortable yet very sturdy. Once I got everything fitted the way I thought I wanted it (which takes some time with this mask because there are so many adjustment possibilities), I twisted and turned and put my head in the pillow trying to make the thing leak. It was hard, not impossible - especially when I accidentally snagged the hose and gave it a good yank, but it was hard to make it leak.

I need at least another night to give it an honest review, though. Apparently I caught the stomach bug going around the office and last night wasn't such a good night. I was up and down, and my stomach kept waking me up. The icky feeling kept me from being able to focus on the mask like I'd hoped to do. I feel much better this morning so I should be able to offer a much better review tomorrow.

Of the three, I've only tried the Aloha. Before that I used a nasal mask. I really like the Aloha, but can't compare to the others. For my pretty average head and nasal openings, I find it fits really well, rarely leaks at all, and easily shifts from side to side with me. Best part is, if I wake up slowly and open my eyes, I don't even realize I have a mask on, until I move and pull on the hose!

Good post-and glad to see you will keep us updated.
We do not carry the Aloha were I work but we do have the pilairo. It has been met with pretty good results from most of our patients-some returns like all mask but not a huge number.
Most will complain about the strap and the nose feeling like it hurts.
One of the RT's that I work with rec'd a sample from the rep and he wore it and he loves it. Said he does wake up with a red dot on the tip of his nose but it goes away pretty quickly-so not a deal breaker. (he is pretty picky too).
Anyway-glad the aloha worked for you and hope it continues to work!
