Any ideas to tweak my Swift Fx?
Hi folks,
After 5 years with a Breeze, happy, I switched three weeks ago to a Swift fx. It is comfortable, no problems with the nose, but I find I leak more at night and can't get comfortable on my pillow . The "exhaust hole" sprays air on my pillow and makes noise, or on my husband and he makes noise. Or the nasal pillows leak. Do I need to tighten the straps? Do I need a different size pillow? HELP! I want my Breeze back - but a part fell out of my bag and is gone forever....
THANKS!

Re: Any ideas to tweak my Swift Fx?
After 18 months with my first set of nasal pillows I finally decided it was time for a new set. Surprisingly I started have a lot more issues with leaks, but I've found that using a small amount of lanolin cream on my nares has solved this problem. It amazing how loose the straps can be. I use the largest pillow that will seal.
As for the air blast I use a small piece of very porous filter material over the exhaust hole that completely eliminates the air blast. This works very well but you must not restrict the air flow

Re: Any ideas to tweak my Swift Fx?
With the Swift FX - unlike Greg's experience - I went down one size as the pillows appear to be larger than those of say, my Swift LT. I realize everybody has a different face and nose but I'd recommend you try the other sizes. I never had to have the FX tight at all - especially the strap on top of your head. My nares slant downward from my face outward and the the LT allows me to adjust for that with the up-down adjustment the FX doesn't have. The FX for me was "it fits you or it doesn't" as the only adjustments available are pillow size and strap tension. If it works for you it's a nice appliance because it is the least on my face than any other I've tried.

Regarding the missing part...I lost a tiny clear plastic exhale port from my full face mask. I found a replacement part on our host's website. Maybe you can find a replacement there.

I solved a lot of leak problems by putting O rings under the pillows.

Check the fitting video available here:
http://www.resmed.com/us/products/swift ... s&sec=true
Some things to try:
- use the fitting guide at the video above as your baseline guide then adjust from
there as to what works for you
- experiment with the different pillow sizes that came with your mask to see what
works
Are you perhaps breathing through your mouth?

Re: Any ideas to tweak my Swift Fx?
I kept looking for something wrong with my Swift FX because the blast of air was so strong. I have been putting my arm inside the pillow case to avoid it but it does wake me up. I didn't really notice the exhaust on my Softgel.
I too had a better seal with the larger pillows and I really can't say I notice leaks (they would wake me up when I used the softgel mask) but my data report shows many more leaks with the FX.
I am glad to read about others noticing the gale force winds coming from this mask.

I too have gale force winds and if I just started with my prescribed pressure, I doubt I could handle it. I ramp and so I have a chance to get used to the pressure gradually.Elle wrote:I kept looking for something wrong with my Swift FX because the blast of air was so strong. Small O rings at the "neck" of the little cones and nasal pillow junction. Discussed here at the forum some last spring. The idea being the O rings help stabilize the nasal pillow a bit so the pillows don't collapse on themselves and thus improve seal and limit leak.poppi2 wrote: squid13 wrote:I solved a lot of leak problems by putting O rings under the pillows.

Pictures and discussion somewhere in the archives of forum posts but I don't have time for searching for them at the moment.

Thanks. I'll do some digging and give my fx another chance. EarlPugsy wrote:Small O rings at the "neck" of the little cones and nasal pillow junction.

The size of O ring you need is Outside Diameter 13/16" x Inside diameter 9/16" by 1/8" thick. The brand if you go to a hardware store is Danco #93. Put Danco #93 in the search box. There is only two hits, it's the second one and it's on the 2nd page and scroll down.
