No a dog "waking" you up is not the solution. You still wake up, which is one of the problems. A reduction to 40 episodes is worthless and so is O2 when you are not breathing it in.
A dog keeping you awake while driving is only slightly better then no dog by maybe half a millimetre. Your license should be taken away ASAP. You are delusional thinking this is working in any way shape or form. You are a danger to all who are on the road, a potential killer of innocent children.

Nasty comment is not the answer.
Sleep study shows 4 hrs of REM. with O2 level staying in the safe zone. The Doctors were excited at the improvement of the condition which has continued to improve. Alertness during the day is well documented also. Just because it's different doesn't mean it isn't a success. I'll stand behind my doctors, and documentation of current sleep studies. I'm not on the road out to kill babies. What a terrible thing to say.

Truth is always painful - you should not be behind a wheel, intent or not. You are the equivalent of legally drunk, you are a killer waiting for a victim. Your doctors should be charged with murder if you kill anyone.pepperchris4340 wrote:Nasty comment is not the answer.

Pepperchris4340 I see you've met BlackSpinner. She believes everyone with sleep apnea should have their drivers license revoked as we are all child killers. Forget the fact that a lot of sleep apnea sufferers are fully functional people [like myself] who don't have problems staying awake or paying attention to tasks during the day.

Your dog taps you into breathing 40-80/hour? Poor dogs paws must get tired by the end of the night. Not mocking you, but that sounds really hard on that poor dog.

i'm not sure that I really like the recent rash of people bashing other people here on the forums. I got chided here the other day by someone who
apparently has not been laid in quite a long time. I thought we were here to help each other and encourage, Not sit in judgement. I'll get off of
the soapbox for the time being.

Re: Service Dogs for Sleep Apnea
No don't put words in my mouth. Untreated people with OSA should not be on the road anymore then drunks or drug dependent people. Because it has been proved many times that tired people drive worse then drunks.flatag wrote:Pepperchris4340 I see you've met BlackSpinner. This idiot needs a dog beside her to stay awake while driving. Do you really want to meet this idiot on the road with your kids in the car?
Edited to add : According to 100 years of sleep deprivation studies, one of the first things to go is the ability to judge ones capabilities. People believe they are doing fine when test show they are definitely NOT fine or capable of making accurate judgements. Sleep deprived people will happily bomb hospitals and schools without question. They are no different then drunks who think they are capable of driving.

No, please don't get off your soapbox. I think you have a point!Afterhours wrote:i'm not sure that I really like the recent rash of people bashing other people here on the forums. I got chided here the other day by someone who apparently has not been laid in quite a long time.
As I've said before, there are many ways to say the same thing. Speaking in a nice manner actually helps the other person hear what you have to say. If you start knifing someone from your very first sentence, it kind of turns them off... doncha think?!

Re: Service Dogs for Sleep Apnea
I missed the first complete post (edited into nothing). However, if I get the gist of it..... the question has been thrown out about using a dog to keep a sleepy person awake while driving.
Ummmm..... ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!!! All a dog will do is drive you to distraction - literally! Very much the same way as disruptive children or a car full of teenagers with a teenage driver. Your concentration (and eyes) needs to be on the road, not on something/someone else.
However, if you think you must give it a try, go ahead. You'll most likely end up in the hospital, probably in ICU, with a breathing tube in your throat and on life support (if you're lucky). It's great job security for me!

Maybe its that some posts are so far out there, they are stupid. I think many post them to start what has resulted in this thread. It's hard not to respond.

Re: Service Dogs for Sleep Apnea
The thing I agree with most on this thread is the inability of people to judge whether or not they're competent when they plainly are not - you would not want a drunk (who thinks they can drive) to take your children home, so why would you want a half asleep person doing - someone who's been sleepy for so long they don't know they're compromised any more.
And even a dog trained by the official trainers of service dogs (at a cost you'd be shocked by) cannot keep your airway open at night - and that's the issue with apnea, the only one... no statistics about other things will convince anyone here of anything else... cute, but ridiculous.
We're not bashing you for the sake of it, we're trying to get through to you to save your life (and maybe that poor dog's who's stuck in the car with you).

Re: Service Dogs for Sleep Apnea
Actually Afterhours you seem to be "bashing", as you put it, too. Since when does someone need to get laid to not be out of sorts or grumpy. You brain is in your pants, you need to put it back where it belongs and allow it to think about other things besides getting laid.Afterhours wrote:i'm not sure that I really like the recent rash of people bashing other people here on the forums. My 2 cents

And is this case "Specifically" I agree w/last.LSAT wrote:In the case of pepperchris4330 specifically...I agree with BS.
However comma I would be interested in hearing how a service dog would work AND more importantly how or why a service dog would be an improvement over what we are currently using?
I am ALL ears - Dialog....
