Um no cuddles?

Post by Wonderbeastlett » Wed Jul 18, 2012 12:57 pm

I've been on using my cpap therapy for 3 weeks and I've noticed something! I can't cuddle with my hubs anymore! Every time I try I feel as though I'm stretching my hose! Plus it's kinda heavy from my snugglehose I have on it. It is level with my bed but I'm scared I'll pull the machine or break the hose!?

How do all you couples keep that level of intimacy while being strapped to this thing!?

You do it in the back seat of a volkswagon in a park before going to bed. It adds a sense of danger and makes you feel like a teenager again.

It can require some minor adjustments to thinking, habits, and ways of expressing intimacy--such as a clearer demarcation between what is supposed to happen while awake and what is supposed to happen while asleep. As a general rule, intimacy happens while awake but PAP therapy is supposed to happen when you are asleep.

On a personal note, I set my hose and mask up near my pillow before I get into bed. I try to remember to mask up as soon as I'm ready for sleep, but if I ever start drifting off to sleep without having masked up, which happens rarely but occasionally, my wife lovingly and gently nudges the mask against my hand or against my head. I can almost put the mask on without coming completely out of stage one sleep now, I think.

Snuggle time can be just as emotionally fulfilling when it has to end a few moments before actual sleep. It will just have to include a brief concluding "good night and I love you" moment before mask-up and sleep time, which can be kind of a nice moment too, when you think about it that way.

Hope that helps.

And hope the other fellows around here don't make fun of me for my post.

Hey, I'm a musician--I'm allowed to talk about this stuff!

We spoon while masked up--just have to aim the exhaust away from each other.

Cuddle before...when you mask up, it's time for sleep.

get yourself a longer cpap hose and a cpap hose holder. the hose holder helps keeping you from rolling over on the hose or having to wake up and make adjustments during the night.

Mostly we like to talk some before bed but we usually don't sleep without one of us hugging the other. This has been trying because now that's been reduced to maybe our feet or hands touching but no cuddling. Does having your hose hang above you tug at the mask? It's seems like it would?

I yanked my machine off the night table once and luckily it landed on my slippers, so no harm done. Scary tho! Now I wrap a Velcro strap (that cyclists use to pin up their pant cuffs) about a 18" from the machine. I make sure it is good and tight and then I take the end of the Velcro strap that sticks out and, using a Sears hand clamp, securing it to the edge of my mattress. It all looks kinda funky, however it works great and I haven't yanked my unit off the night stand since. Here's the hand clamp that I use - it's the second largest one in the set:

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

Short answer: if he doesn't have a XPAP, he comes to your side of the bed!

Longer answer: I echo what everyone else has said here about intimacy vs sleep and hose management. Cuddles/sexytimes happen for us, then we usually both mask up and fall asleep with our hands/arms/legs touching. That said, I LOVE the feel of the cool exhaust air on me in the summertime, so I usually nudge him to sleep with his head facing me. It's like my own private fan!

We also started sleeping on our sides sometimes, facing away from each other with back pressed to back, and that is SO nice. A very intimate, connected sleeping position that is great with XPAP. And it KEEPS both of us on our sides, reducing apneas! Better than tennis balls sewn into pajamas!
