HOw do I downlad data?

Post by kgresgott » Sat Mar 24, 2012 3:17 pm

Forgive me if I sound stupid. I am still a newbie. But another post mentioning 'bricks' got me thinking about my own machine. Is it a 'brick'? I know that it has a modem that the DME can download my data from. How do I go about doing ti for myself?

No, yours is not a brick! You done good!! I'm not too familiar with the NEW Respironics, but you will need software and the ability to read the card. Others here will describe the process and hook you up with the appropriate software. I have the M-series version (older) of that machine. Welcome!

Go ahead and install Sleepyhead. Once you get installed and set up your user, you shouldn't have to do anything but put the card in and select import.

OK, so I have to download data from the SD card. Where is this card located? How does it connect to my hard drive, through a USB cord?

Your SD card is hidden by the modem on the back of the blower. The SD slot is here in this picture blow. All you have to do is remove the Modem which is not hard. Several members here have done it.
SD card should already be in there but if it isn't...any generic 1or 2 GB SD card will work.
Remove the Modem (should pop off easy)...pull the SD card...get your data from the software. Replace the SD card..then Modem and no one will be the wiser.

But where do I put the SD card into to get the data off it? I only have an almost 4 year old computer. No fancy cell phone or I pad or anything like that...

If your computer does not have a SD slot (like you would use for a SD card from a digital camera) then you likely will have an open USB port and all you need is what we call SD card reader/adapter.
One end plugs into the USB port and the other end has a slot for the SD card.
Your computer will simply see it as an extra drive and give it a "letter" name. And this "letter" is where you navigate SleepyHead to ..to start the download..don't go into the folder.

The adapter looks like this...any generic will do..about $10 or so at Walmart.

4 year old computer..may or may not have a built in SD slot. I have a 4 year old laptop and it has a slot but not all computers have them..even new ones today.

Ok, I just looked in the front of my computer and there are two little slots. One says 'SD/Mini/MMC' and the other one I couldn't read. I am assuming the firs tone is what I need, right?

OK, I took the modem off, but all I saw was a slot on the bottom with a 'SIM' card, and what looked like a small yellow button next to it. (I would probably need a pencil or something like that to push it). Is this SIM card the SD card?

If you haven't already....just push the card in...pushing it in releases it so that you can remove it easily.
That is all I ever did to release the card. Never even saw a yellow button and for sure never used a pencil or such to get the card to back out.

So push in...let go and it will release and come back out farther so you can get hold of it with your fingers.
