Dori,

Fingers, toes, and eyes crossed for you and Mike.

Do take care of yourself, as I see you plan to do. You don't need to be in the bed next to Mike!

And yes, you are always welcome here.

Prayers!

Dori,

My heart and prayers go out to both you and Mike. You are indeed going through some very rough times. As others have said: Whatever you and Mike decide for now will be the right decision for you for the present. And in the future? If circumstances change, decisions can be revisited. And if they don't, rest assured that you made the decision that made sense and don't look back with what if's and regrets.

And know that you are always welcome here: You are an important part of this community in your own self, not just as Mike's loving wife.

Hoping both you and Mike feel better soon. And hoping you both get the rest you need and deserve,
Robysue

Dori,

You and Mike have certainly been dealing with a rough spot. I am keeping your family in my prayers for a resolution that you can all be comfortable with. Mike may be discouraged right now and maybe in time he may decide to go back to the CPAP. If he does not, it is his decision and he is making it out of love for you too, in a way. It sounds like he knows how hard it is for you being the watchful loving eye that you are for him. He does not want to have you suffer either.

You two are a loving caring couple and it is an inspiration to me to see how dedicated and determined you each are to love each other well.

I do hope he enjoys the time with you and the family and the new grandbaby. Family is so very important.
Hugs to you all, Bless you,

Karen

Mike, You are a stubborn sun of a gun, and I think you are making the wrong decision, but I fully understand where you are coming from. Down the road a bit I think you will be kicking yourself in the backside over this decision. For now, I will stand right beside you and fully support you in taking control of your situation. A person can only take so much crap and then they have to put their foot down.

Dori, While not "enjoying" xPAP therapy yourself, you are a very valuable member of this community. You have seen and solved many more problems than most of us and your advice is usually spot on. I am proud to have you as part of my support team and hope you will continue to share your wisdom.

It is my hope that both of you are able to have your stress levels reduced to near zero and that your hearts are filled with peace and joy.

The support here has been overwhelming as well as receiving many heartfelt PMs. I managed to get Mike to 2 Drs today, it wasn't easy but they've both come up with a pretty definitive diagnosis of Pseudo Gout. There's a lot about it if you google it. It is a completely different disease than Gout, nothing to do with uric acid levels, etc. Certain crystals have formed in his knee which were detected on xray that pretty much confirm the dx. The Rheum injected his knee again in 2 different spots then in the hospital and put him on a course of antibiotics because he also suspects an infection. He also was given an RX for cholchicine(sp?) for inflamation and it helps but he can only take it once daily. There's a lot more going on and this is really debilitating him which is causing me much anxiety. All he does is sleep. Speaking of sleep, disregard everything I said about stopping therapy. I think most of you knew what the outcome would be anyway! You're a sneaky bunch! It didn't take me long last night to ditch that super duper chin strap the hospital gave me that would "be a good substitute" and put Mike back on his mask with Padacheek's soft liner. Within the hour after he fell asleep he was gasping and snorting, leg movements, the whole nine yards exactly like pre- cpap which scared me to death. He quieted down with the mask and was breathing nicely for the time I watched him. Of course his AHI was 8.5 with some ugly data but considering the pain he's having it's to be expected I guess. Hopefully tonight will be better after the injections. He's got a long way to go and it's taking it's toll on him so I hope he can fight back. Thank you all for your loving kindness to us. It's really helping me.

I didn't know pseudy gout existed. Wow.

I am glad to hear that Mike is back on xPAP. A good nights sleep, even if it isn't perfect, will help a lot.

I hope they can take care of the pain associated with this.

Update, MIke's back in the hospital, had a very bad reaction to the pain medication for his pseudogout, became unresponsive, called 911 at midnight Friday. They're doing lots of brain tests to r/o stroke, blood clot, etc. He's doing better today, seems to have stabilized, knee pain almost gone and if all goes well will go to rehab for awhile. Interesting note, he agreed to be put on the hospital big monster Respironics bi-pap machine, they wouldn't let me bring his machine(new rule). From what I see the Pulm Dr set it for 12/5 with 30% oxygen I think. They slapped a Respironics FF mask on him only used in hospitals at 10PM and from what I can see on the notes his pressure stayed around 7 with highest pressure at 17 which I don't understand, reasonable leaks, turned off about 5AM. All he told me was the machine and mask didn't "bother" him and he seemed much more alert today. So now I'm wondering about this bi-pap therapy and if it might be better for him. Hopefully when he recovers I'll make an appt with this Pulm/Sleep Dr who I liked very much and has a good reputation. We haven't really had a good consultation since we started. I'm feeling a bit more encouraged today seeing Mike a little more like himself again.

It's been a real roller coaster! Sorry he's back in the hospital, but I'm glad he's doing better!
