Heated Hose?

Post by eastbay » Mon Jan 02, 2012 8:09 pm

Hi,

I'm experiencing rain out and tried the basic work arounds withold success. I'm using a PR System One REMstar BiPAP Auto with Bi-Flex. Any recommendations for heated hose? links?

So far, now that I understand the humidifier more, I've raised levels since I am a sinusy kinda person and haven't had that problem as yet. Supposed to get pretty cool tonight so we'll see. However, the solution I saw besides a cozi around the tubing is to place your cpap significantly lower than the bed So that the moisture flows back into resevoir rather than trying to drown you. Seems like a simple fix at face value. I used to have that problem before and it drove me crazy although it wasn't the rain out that bothered me as much as the water being noisy in the tubing. It was sorta like a popping sound.

For the past 2 winters I battled rain out. I tried all the usual fixes....hose cozy, barrel cozy, machine much lower than the bed. Limited success. I decided I wasn't going to battle it this winter.

I bought a heated hose for my PR S1 machine. I am totally pleased with it. I no longer have to deal with the heavy hose cozy. I still use the barrel cozy for my nasal pillows because it helps with condensation from moisture in my own breath.
I have documented it here.

I got the Hybernite 2300 from a seller on Ebay. Buy it now price $82 with free shipping. Seller is a DME apparently as they also have a website with other products.

The alternative is to purchase the Aussie heated hose or for someone that is very handy you can make your own heated hose using reptile heater cable. Aussie hose and reptile cable heated hose links here.

Thanks for all the info. I'll take a look at the Ebay offer.

The Hybernite 2300 comes with paperwork that says for the PR System One machines that they recommend changing over the humidifier to the "Classic" mode (heat only). I did this. I use a high 4 or 5 setting on the Classic mode. I have zero rain out in the hose even with my below 60 degree bedroom at this setting. Without the heated hose I would have copious amounts of water in the hose at these settings during the winter.

They also say NOT to use a hose cozy with it because the air will get uncomfortably warm.
This is very true. I tried it. Way too warm.

Question: How do you put the PR System One in "Classic" mode?

Do you have the provider manual? It shows how to make the switch.
The line I have highlighted..all you do is set it to off and the machine reverts back to heat only and the humidity sensors don't do anything. Old mode is called the "Classic" Mode.
