Mask Leakage

Post by GLC » Wed Feb 22, 2006 9:00 am

Hi Everyone,
I have completed one week of therapy with my BiPaP Auto & HH with a Ultra Mirage FF Mask. All my numbers have greatly improved. My question is what is considered exceptible on mask air leakage? The Encore software & MyEncore graphs shows an average leak of 40 l/m with 90% leakage at 50 l/m and maximum leakage from 100 l/m to 80 l/m. I had no, whats considered, large leaks. This seems high to me. I am a side sleeper, I can arrange the pillows to reduce the leakage, but if when I move around during sleep leakage increases. I have tightened the headgear to where it is too tight, then backed off. I have also adjusted the forehead tab from top to bottom with varying amounts of success. The mask seems to seal well at pressures from 6-8cm however, leakage increases at 10cm and above. I thought about trying this second silicon padding over the first as discussed in another thread, but don't know yet. Are these leakage numbers high? Maybe my expectations are too high?

GLC,

It depends on what pressure you're using.
This question came up yesterday in this thread:

If you're at about 10 cm., that's probably about normal or typical.
Hope that answers your question.

Best wishes,
