Take a "Rain Check".
Good one! But I don't think my contract allows for rainchecks.
I believe it does, but only if you want to live. I learned you can pray from anywhere.

Everyone want to go to Heaven,
NO one want to go today!!

God isn't the problem..... it's the PAPER contract. I'm the pastor!

Oh Bons...bless you, I'm sure some of your congregation will be there waiting for you, but I know that one of them will step up and help the others in case you can't be there. Please do not put yourself and your family in harms way if you can't make it through the storm....others will take over for you.
Cheers and good luck to you and your family
Nan

I'd completely forgotten that the hymns picked three months ago for today spoke of the "storms of life"- got a good giggle out of everyone today!

LOL - Canadian reaction to empty Times Square they play hockey
These opportunists simply did what any reasonable Canadian would do when he sees an empty street, avenue, or hallway: they played hockey in it. Heck, if Times Square gets evacuated and I’m within walking distance, I’m playing hockey there. Godzilla could be stomping up the way, I don’t care, I’m going. Whenever I watch I Am Legend, I get frustrated at all the perfect places to play an impromptu game of ball hockey that Will Smith walks right on by. When I saw the photos of an evacuated Grand Central Station, my first thought was, “I want to play hockey there right now.”

This was my first experience losing power since starting cpap. Went to bed and kind of propped myself up and fell asleep unmasked for the first time in a year. Power came back on at 3:00 am masked up and went right back to sleep. I have to admit it felt kind of nice not having anything on my head or face for those few hours.

The power went out Sun just after 6AM and did not come on until about 7PM tonite. We had several good sized tree branches ripped off the trees out back. One ripped the clothes line right off the house. The wind gust apparently moved a down spout enuff to allow some water in the basement, but nothing compared to the horrors I have heard here.

I hear Plant Fitness is offering FREE showers to anyone. That is a very nice gesture. Ours didn't have power when we checked tho.

All in all I don't think I can complain. I certainly had enuff time to catch up on my sleep.

We are just spoiled American who expect. I learned not to expect and you will never be disappointed

Hey Gumby!

It's really great to hear from you. So glad you made it without too much trouble.

Has anyone heard from Brenda on Long Island, NY?

Just what I read here, thought she was doing ok then.

Forgot to mention that cell phone service is spotty at best. Apparently first the cell towers lose power then the batteries they run on just die or the generators run out of fuel? Also when you have events like this it increases the call volume tremendously.

Gasoline is now in short supply also bc there is no power for the pumps right now. Emergency personnel are running all over some for dumb silly stuff too. A guy starts his generator, his CO detector goes off and he wants the fire dept. to check it out? This at the peak of the storm.

Here I am! We made out very well. Lost 1 tree, but was going to have to have it removed anyway. It was 75-100 ft tall and more than 2 1/2 ft in diameter. Lovely old tree but it was rotting. Didn't hit anything on the way down! We never lost power, internet, cable, phone, or anything else. We had some flooding in the area due to tides and storm surge, but these areas flood with any good rain storm. Winds never hit over 61 mph and we only got about 2" of rain. I remember hurricane Gloria and was prepared for upto 2 weeks of no power or water. Cell service has been spotty and some people are just having power outages now(they need to shut service to make repairs).
My stove died Saturday night so even with power I couldn't cook with it. The new one was delivered this morning and Gary will hook it up when he gets home from a round of golf. How much ya wanna bet...we lose power this afternoon?
Thanks for checking on me Amos!
Brenda

Bons......Brenda....Gumby

I am indeed very happy to hear that each of you made it through Irene as well as you did. I am thankful for each one of you (and all the cpappers) who survived the hurricane. I do not have so many friends that I can afford to lose a single one.

Gumby,

I was just wondering. Which event that I sent to you did you like the best: the snow storm last winter or the hurricane this summer? It does seem ironic that both storms had their origin in the South.

Nothing ironic at all... The South shall rise again

No disruption of utilities; in my immediate neighborhood (out my windows) only had sappling sized branches and nothing over 2 inch diameter fall. Was on wireless internet most of the storm, and cell phone showed a signal every time I looked at it.

A few blocks away had many large branches and tree trunks strewn about. 3 miles away, a friend had a large tree blocking the cars in the driveway....luckily didn't hit house or cars!! Relatives in Plymouth, Massachusetts were without power a day......and others elsewhere in Plymouth have house damage, large uprooted trees and no power still. Schools closed until tomorrow, but folks have to go to work!

I identified some holes in my preparedness......none of those have to do with CPAP!

Had my several day portable cpap battery.........need a portable radio with a crank, and ability to boil water if power outage was extensive coupled with water quality issues.

For me, this was a timely practice run. I pray for those who are still suffering with Irene's effects....
