New Quattro FX -- FFM issues
Re: New Quattro FX -- FFM issues
I switched from a quattro mirage to a quattro fx and I love it....been using it since May 11, 2011...once i found the sizing on my straps i marked them...I put the mask on first. ....then i take my hand and press it to my face a couple of times...hook up the hose...humid set on 2....c-flex set on 2 and off i go.....tks...FA
Re: New Quattro FX -- FFM issues
Thanks Bill! I have a cpap pillow. Used it last night. However, I was so noisy my wife could not sleep!
Mask climbed my face twice. Dry, dry mouth. I'm exhausted today. Back to the old mask tonight. Fed up.

My quattro fx has been a disaster. Leaks at bridge of nose. I will be watching to see how you like the mirage fx. Really good reviews on cpap.com but not so good reviews here.DaveL wrote:Quattro fx is gone.

Re: New Quattro FX -- FFM issues
mirage fx experience--night 1--INCREDIBLE!
I'm still angry about my DME experience. And the chinstrap doesn't work, perhaps the way I used it.
There is a review of the mask at clinicalsleep.com
Mirage FX
simple
light
easy to put on
comfortable
head gear didn't mark my face
slept the night through
actually woke up early, feeling refreshed
my wife slept better
Hope this helps.

Re: New Quattro FX -- FFM issues
Has anyone tried changing the headgear on their FX to a PAPCAP? I'm thinking that a pap cap would keep it from creeping up and from farting. I use a pap cap with my q, and I swear if I didn't know better I would think the q was welded to my face, it doesn't move AT ALL! Up, down, sideways, out, no way. I don't know what an FX looks like, so I don't know if a pap cap could hook up to it or not, but worth lab ratting for sure!

Re: New Quattro FX -- FFM issues
You must have seen a different video than I did. The one I saw basically boiled down to "If you have leaks, the mask is either too loose or too tight." Gee, thanks for narrowing that down for me. I think I might make my own video of what a Quattro FX looks like when getting run over by a truck.DaveL wrote:I have seen the video. It's very helpful.
When I'm awake, I can feel the leaks coming. I feel a slight tickle at the side of my nose, then PFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF right in the eyeball.
I think my problem is that I alternate between mouth and nose breathing. Every time I close my mouth, the mask rides up a tad and eventually breaks the seal. I can't even think about rolling on to my side without it blowing out either.

Re: New Quattro FX -- FFM issues
The Quattro FX just didn't suit me.
Mask won't move unless there is some force somewhere. Yet mine would move up high enough to uncover my mouth. At that time it covered my eye. It was like an irobot vacuum cleaner. moving all over my face Perhaps this is what resumed thought full face mask is? The headgear was tight. Can you tell I didn't enjoy the experience? Bless those who use the Quattro FX well; I sure didn't.
The Quattro medium fit me better. I didn't trust it.
The sales person was fitting me sitting up, and was rushing me. I had seen the Mirage FX on display, tried it on, and bought it.
I had been without effective cpap treatment for a week, was cranky and did not enjoy the experience. When will the industry notice that it is hard work being compliant, and provide experienced skilled help for us?

Unfortunately, this is one of the most frustrating things while seeking effective cpap therapy.DaveL wrote:The Quattro FX just didn't suit me.
The right mask is so essential, yet it's very difficult to trial which one may be just right for you. I know It can be aggravating when you see a mask work for so many people yet not work for you.
I guess most of us have to go through this process. I know I have. The Hybrid is another great example of one of those that can work so well for some, yet can be HATED by others. These masks all have their pro's and con's.
If only I wasn't a mouth breather, I would have settled on the Activa years ago!

Re: New Quattro FX -- FFM issues
thanks Vader.
here in Ontario Canada the fix is in. Sleep Doc--need a referral from your GP.
Sleep Doc chooses the DME. Sends the order to them only.
DME shows 3 sets of equipment. Last time I got a machine--Bait and Switch. Had to upgrade unit to take one home. Want to substitute a mask? Forget about it. Want bipap or auto pap? Forget about it.
Cost? Fixed. No discount.
My last mask purchases have been better.
My wish has been to find a cpap supplier who users cpap. Like Joe at cpapman. Oh, some manufacturers won't allow US companies to sell to Canadians.
Suspect in a competitive market we would get auto pap cheaper than we pay for cpap. And get better healthcare.
Sorry Still sleep deprived. Still cranky.

Re: New Quattro FX -- FFM issues
I did not have success with a Papcap and the Quattro FX. The angle and positioning of the upper straps did not meet up with any of the velcro material on the Papcap. I considering taking my old Papcap to the local drycleaner/seamstress and seeing about attaching appropriate velcro pieces to the cap.islandboy5150 wrote:Has anyone tried changing the headgear on their FX to a PAPCAP? I have worn my Papcap so I can use the chinstrap. I use the Quattro FX headgear over everything else.

Re: New Quattro FX -- FFM issues
I just got the Quattro FX this past week, and I've worn it four nights. It is the first full face mask (except hybrid) that doesn't destroy the top of my nose. My nose sticks out quite a ways where the mask sits, and it holds the mask pretty securely. The DME did say people with smaller noses have trouble with this mask. I guess there are advantages to having a big nose!
I've had good results, low leaks, etc. most of the time. But if it starts to leak a bit towards morning, I just can't get it to stop. It's so annoying I just remove the mask and rest a while more before I get up for the day. I noticed this morning my face got a bit moist, and that seemed to be what made it leak. I'll lower my humidifier more to see if that helps. Perhaps I'll also cut up a t-shirt today and make some mask liners to try.

DaveL - that's so funny! I woke up this morning with my mask still on and started laughing! Laughed again in the shower! Gotta have a sense of humor about all of this , except I have NO sense of humor about the dents it makes in my cheeks Shouldn't an "irobot vacuum cleaner" be able to remove the indentations and wrinkles at the same time. What kind of technology are we dealing with anyway.

Thanks Bright Choice. Trying to see humor in this. Gave the DME rep my opinion. Truly feel the need to find help from a supplier that uses cpap.

Re: New Quattro FX -- FFM issues
Well I had a follow-up call from the DME rep. She wanted me to change out and back to a Full Face Mask. (We had tried 2 in the office before I bought the Mirage FX.)
As I see it the only issue I have right now is that the face-strap she sold me doesn't work. I have no hair on top, so it slides out of place and I start mouth breathing.
Told her that I need a representative that understands the problems that CPAP users face; someone with direct experience. She suggested that was a good idea.
So...back to the long distance travel. The other representative who is more knowledgable and caring is sending a replacement chin strap. I'll give the Mirage FX a try with a real chin strap. Or perhaps try mouth-taping?
I simpathize with your comments about lines on your face. I have those too--from the chinstrap. They're still there 6 hours after I took the strap off. And it didn't work....
Is it Padacheek here that has covers for mask straps? I've been very impressed with her posts, her site, and have yet to buy from her. (Cross border shopping...)
Best
