No I don't think they are communicating in code It isn't that sinister.

As I said in my post above, it is a known tactic to include bunches of random words as a way of confusing spam filters.

I have no doubt the site admin is grappling with this issue as we post.

Snoozie,

You really didn't "miss" anything...... Just some SICK-O with Attention Deficit Disorder (he can't get enough attention) who's been making "garbage" (or spam) posts. There are still a couple in a thread called "I Quit" about four posts from the end of that thread. Obviously someone who doesn't have a "life".

Sleepy Gal, DSM and others who are concerned - possibly you don't otherwise lurk or participate in other forums on the 'net, but this problem is very common and the quickest way to deal with it is just plain ignore them. Don't answer, don't 'freak out' and think there's a conspiracy, little green men or who knows what (most of the time it's little green kids). Just plain ignore them as you would a telephone pest - as soon as you 'engage' (respond, or show your nerves, etc.) they'll have more fuel for their nonsense, so 'just hang up'.

It is a bot (robot script) that goes around to ANY board running a particular software. We have the same problem on our forum. Limiting guests to not posting only takes care of some, but most of the nasty posts were actually by a bot that registered as users. I suggested a way to handle that here but don't think it went anywhere. The software here has the ability to use visual verification, it is very effective against the registration bots. As for the guest posts, Johnny is in the same boat we are, if you allow guest posting, you allow guest posting...

Julie,

LOL-"little green kids"??? Congers up some interesting visuals, at least in my warped little head. Thanks for the laugh.

Mike,

Good to hear it's not only happening here and you have a real answer for this one. It just is scary, at least in my opinion, when you read some of the words in those posts. I guess my imagination can be overactive. Maybe I should put that trait to use and write a fiction book. Maybe it will be about Julie's little green kids .

I'll be crawling back under my rock now...my work here is done.

I just reported 5 spams in a row on one thread, all Guests, all with different names.

Best thing to do if you run across them is to click on Report Spam at the top of the message window.
