S9 Hose Issues Survery PLEASE VOTE!

Post by torontoCPAPguy » Tue May 03, 2011 4:33 pm

I have had an S9 Autoset pretty much since they came out (actually have two - one spare). The main issues I would like to bring up at the moment (and there are indeed other issues)... the main issue I would like to bring up and get some feedback on, for all members, is the HOSE issue. Who in the heck designed this crap? I have several hoses, some left over spares from my S8 (larger diameter) and the S9 hoses seem to spring leaks like a rubber dinghy. The S8 hoses have been superb. I think part of the issue is the fact that the hose comes out the back of the humidifer... you can either choose to try and ready your display upside down or have the hose at a disturbing angle that, as a technician, I can assure you it is not intended to be in. I would bet $5 that the design team never had to use this blower to validate their design.

Please make intelligent comments, unlike myself as I am just dissed with Respironics for being such dumbells on this, as I intend to refer Respironics to our poll results. I have had TWO brand new hoses crap out where they enter the rubber 'plug' on a single weekend while away, 1,000 miles from home. Go figure.

Don't have an S9 so I can't comment on that, but I wish the S8 hose came out the back. Since I route it up and over the headboard anyway, it would put less stress on it if it came out the back.

I don't know that I want to vote yet. I've only had my S9 with slimline hose for less than a week, so no I haven't had a leak yet. I would be pretty upset if I had.

I did get a leak in the hose that came with my S6 after 9 years, but that's acceptable to me.

I like the way the hose attaches to my backup unit (PR system One). It attaches to the top of the humidifier and swivels 360 degrees. I don't know if a heated hose could work with that kind of set up.

The hose DOES come out the side of the S9. It comes out the back of the H5i humidifier.

I voted number 2 but will you please explain to me what a Standard hose is?

By "S9's standard hose" do you mean the 15mm Slimline hose? Or do you mean a 22mm hose?

Aren't S9's hoses "Resmed" ? I have had both standard and heated climate line hose, without any leaks or problems.

We need to get this straight. Are you polling about Resmed S9 & S8 hoses, or Respironics hoses? I think you need to can this survey and bring it back with the correct nomenclature.

And if you do redo it, please ask how long it took to get a leak (report average if more than one).

I've had my S9 machine for 11 months now. I used the SlimLine for a few weeks, and then I switched to the ClimateLine. I had read reports about the hoses having a tendency to tear near the cuff, so before using them I wrapped silicone Rescue Tape around both ends of the tubing/cuff area to reinforce. I have had no problems with either hose. I also have used regular tubing with the S9, and it works fine (not heated, of course). There's a Tube Type setting on the S9 that needs to be set to "standard" if you use regular tubing.

I would much prefer that the hose came out the front, top, or right side for two reasons: (1) it would give me more hose length to work with and (2) it would prevent the hose from bending so sharply where it leaves the humidifier. I made sure that the bend isn't too severe and then I strapped that end of the hose onto the wire cart that I have it on. That minimizes the chance of damage from bending and also prevents me from accidentally jerking the machine off the cart when I'm masked up. Having the tubing exit out the back was dumb design, in my opinion.

I would like the hose at the top but dont know if it could be with climate line. I have my machine on the floor and it would be a major improvement to have the hose from the front than I could turn the machine to face me and then I could actually rad the display

I couldnt vote properly in the poll because I didnt know what you meant by a S9 standard hose

My issue has been with the Swift FX little short hose. I went through 6 of those hoses in about 6 months. They just fell apart.

My solution was to order from PadACheek a hose cover for that hose, also for the long hose, and I modified the cover to clamp firmly around the fittings at either end of the short hose. Since doing that I have used my last hose for 6 months without problems.

I am using the S8 machine and am still using the original hose, so I don't have an issue with that hose.

The leaks in the little hose started near either end, however I had one time where I was unable to get a replacement and had to repair the hose. I wrapped it in cling wrap and taped the cling wrap in place. After using that for a few weeks I found that the hose had holes in it all along its length. My best guess is that the material between the spiral reinforcement is thin enough to fail if you look at it wrong.

I use climateline hose. I have not had any issues and I am still on my original hose and headgear at the six month point. I have a thin fleece hose cover on my hose on on my swift LT hose. I don't like the plastic feel. I add a 2 foot extension to the end of the hose closest to me. My hose cover is 9 feet long. I use velcro cable tie to hold the cover in place. Then I use a velcro hose clip. to hold the hose to the side of my mattress.

My machine sits on the nightstand. the hose comes out the back and goes over the back of nightstand. Then its clipped to the side of the mattress. My S9 is sitting on rubberized shelf liner from the the dollar store to keep it from moving around.

I have a pad a check barrel cover on my LT which I love!!!

I have not had any issues.

A good thing with the S8 is that it had a hose length setting so that you could select a longer hose length, I did get the longer hose to reduce the stress on it.
