Best travel machine
Hello all you snore free compatriots. After about a month of using my "new friend" I have had the same wonderful results most of you have described. I'm still working on the best mask...but in time I'll figure that out! This past weekend I stumbled on this board and was thrilled to find this source of info and encouragement. I look forward to being another happy regular here! Anyway, here is my question: I travel for anywhere from a few days to a few weeks about once every other month and am interested in purchasing a travel machine At home I am using a F&P HC234 with an integral humidifier. Does anyone have experience and recommendations for a compact machine? What about experience with switching from a humidified machine to a non-humidified one? Any other travel tips?
Thanks folks!
Thanks folks!

I have traveled with my machine, and have had no problems whatsoever. The best advice I can give you is BRING AN EXTENSION CORD! Fortunately for me, I brought one with me the first time I ever traveled with mine and I'm glad I did. I ended up using it. If you do a search of the threads, there is a really good one about traveling with your machine.
Thanks

I'm using the S8 as my main machine and my travel machine ... it is really small and easy to travel with and very well put together. It fits into a bag no bigger than you would have for a small laptop. However, a lot of people use the PB 420 series as it is even lighter than the S8 ... look at cpap.com and see the visual comparisons they have there - it's a very helpful feature.
I can't comment on the PB 420 as I've never used it, but most people seem very pleased with it as a traveling machine. As for the S8 I can recommend it for travelling and as a main machine.

For travel, the 420E is tops:

Here is the size compare sir comference mentioned, it is on the 420G, which is the same size as the 420E:

I rented a machine for my 5 weeks in Asia. My machine was too heavy at about 4.50 pounds. I rented a Goodknight G at 1.50 pounds. It was light and extremely quite. I was glad that I had it. I recommend it highly. It also converted the currents automatically so I did not need a converter. YEA!
I even thought about buying it when I returned. I should have it was arounf $250, now I have seen it for $97 with a free breeze mask setup. https://www.cpap.com/productpage/purita ... -cpap.html

I also have the F&P 234. Purchased a 420E for travel and, actually, use it as my primary machine because of some of the features. I like the shape of the bag and lighter weight for travel. Overall, it is about the same size as the F&P (maybe a tad smaller) when assembled with the matching humidifier. But the shape, ability to separate the HH from the unit, and lighter weight make it preferable for travel. Plus it seems to be a really good machine - I'm very happy with it.
I also have an S8 escape, but prefer the PB because of size, weight, and features.

While we are talking about 420E's...can I ask a question? Does it have automatic on and off capability that I just don't have activated? Seems like such a silly feature....but I REALLY like auto on and off. Especially off. If I don't have that, I am forever having my machine run all day with a readout of "Warning! High Leak!", lol. And of course then my stats are all screwed up. I don't ever hear that it is on and it just keeps running and running....
I actually put the 420E away and I'm using the Resmed Spirit (yes it is HUGE) because it has that on-and-off thing going for it....
Jan in Colo.

I am also searching for a second APAP machine for travel. I am down to the PB420 and S8. The question I have is the size comparison of the PB420 WITH the integrated humidifier vs the S8 WITH the integrated humidifier. For anyone that has seen both of these side by side the info would be helpful. In all the size comparisons on CPAP.com they dont show any photos comparing the sizes WITH the humidifiers attached and adding the humidifer obviously adds size to both units.
I want the smallest unit WITH humidifier attached. Hopefully someone out there has seen both of these units side by side. I know this info will most likely make my decision for me and it will be helpful to NOLONGERTIRED as well.
Thanks,
Mark

Yep, I have both. And I know what you mean regarding size - that was my precise concern. I would have to put the S8 together to actually measure them. The bags, with both pieces (flow generator and HH) are very close in size. The weight of the PB unit is substantially less (based on anecdotal evidence provided by my arms and shoulders). The bag is a tiny bit flatter/thinner. Overall, size difference is neglible when packed. Assembled, the size is close, although subjectively I think the PB has the edge for being slightly smaller in several dimensions. I can post measurements later if you want.

ProfessorSleep,
Sounds like you can't go wrong with either machine for travel. When I look at the pics of the 420 with the humidifier on CPAP.com it just looks bigger than the S8 with humidifier. But pictures can be deceiving. And just as much as size is a consideration so is weight. Thanks for the input. Looks like I have a decision to make!

It is an optical illusion! No, seriously, it does look bigger- but I think it is a camera angle thing. I'd give the PB higher marks on portability in regard to both size and, most definitely, the weight. Given that, as chrisp mentioned, the PB has 12volt capability out of the box, combined with the software (which I like, YMMV), I opted for the PB over the S8. These decisions are never easy, which I guess is good since that means we have choices! I hope whatever you opt for works well for you!
