How Did You Find cpaptalk.com?
I found it through a Google search. I was looking for info regarding Aura and Google took me to some of your interesting comments.
I've been a hosehead for 2 1/2 years, live in rural Arkansas (very rural), and basically had to educate myself because my local DME knew less than I did. I faithfully read another forum, which was full of wonderful information, like this one. I ended up buying all my own equipment online and filed for reimbursement with my insurance company.
If it wasn't for this forum, and the other one I read, I would have still been struggling for decent equipment which suited my needs.
Let me end by saying that this forum seems "friendlier" than the other one - I love the profiles and friendly faces.

How did I find CPAP talk?
I have been on CPAP for about 5 years. Last year I was living 900 miles away from home, my DME coverage had not survived a change in plans, and I was trying to find the nearest source for a new mask.
The people who sold me the last one (Apria, via Kaiser) were pretty far away. So I logged on and "prayed to St. Google" and CPAP.COM popped up. Once I discovered I could buy anything but a machine without a prescription, and without breaking the bank, I bought new head gear and a Humidifier and filters too!
The service and prices are so good that I searched the web pages for more information and found the forum. The first thing that told me I was in the right place was how often we talk about being at the mercy of people who really don't understand the issues. Can I get a witness?
I recently asked about side-sleeping masks and got a lot of informed responses within 2 days! I haven't bought one yet. But I know what the issues are. Thanks to this community.
That's the major feature of this forum. It's a community. We share our struggles and successes, welcome and reassure new-comers, and learn how to take ourselves lightly

Hello, I am not a guest, but I get rejected when using my username, and I have just given up trying to "fix" things here.
I searched on the internet and found this site. No one that I knew had any info and my M.D. didn't either. I know more than he does. I'm trying to educate him.
I don't remember what search engine I used, has been over a year.

Hi, this is Marie, the guest again.
My previous post did not elaborate on how desperate I was for information.
I would hear someone say,"oh, so and so is using a cpap machine", and I would get their telephone numbers and call them. Most were men, and didn't use the cpap as they were supposed to so they were no help.
I was thrilled to death when I found this forum, it answered all of my questions, and opened my eyes to a lot of other matters concerning cpap.
I had found an AWAKE group in a nearby town, but they had just canceled a meeting and were looking for a moderator. I haven't heard from them since then.I was very disappointed about that.
Thanks very much
Marie

I was just searching for CPAP stuff, and found CPAP.COM and was ordering stuff from them, and noticed the stuff about the newsletter and pap forum.
My previous expierence with talking to people wan't good. The first three were non compliant and proud of it. (STUPID)
I wasn't too excited about this forum until I realized how much people really knew and how much expierence they had. I have used this board more of a sounding board than anything else.

Found searching the net. Been on CPAP 3 months, found the need to find out what is really going on. The people supplying our medical advice either don't know or care. I am going to hook this Remstar up to the computer and see what I am doing right or wrong. It's our health isn't it?

How Did You Find cpaptalk.com?
I googled! I can't thank you guys enough for all the info. I've gleaned. After being diagnosed in late July, I was able to use the knowledge I'd gained, to initially opt for an alternative treatment, i.e. weight loss. I started at the beginning of Sept. and have thus far lost 64lbs, with 110 lbs to go. As you can see I was grossly overweight, but already I'm feeling such wonderful benefits. I am dedicated to completing the program, which is strictly, medically controlled. Of course, if after the completion another sleep study reveals I still have OSA, I will be joining you all in the nether-world of cpap. I can honestly say that judging by my current results, I feel that I have certainly reduced, if not cured my apnea. Anyway I have an appointment with my respirologist on Monday, so we'll see what his opinion is. Keep up the good work on this site, it is invaluable!!!
If it is to be it is up to me!

I was referred to the forum specifically by a post in that "other forum" as well. It was a link to Mike Moran's posts, which are hilarious! I fall off my chair laughing whenever I read them. As to the page itself, I was out allthewebbing (as opposed to googling) and found the video portion of the site. That was my first visit; I didn't even know that another forum existed on this page until I came across the link mentioned above.
