I just quit a month ago using gum and then I discovered e-cigs. I love e-cigs as they take care of the "what to do with your hands" and "work a while then a smoke break" habit I have after 25 years of smoking. I actually prefer the e-cigs over smokes now, it took a few weeks but once e-cigs have you hooked not smoking is easy.
I was just did my sleep study and felt great after a night on the mask. I am eagerly awaiting my doctor prescribing me a CPAP so I can get started but I HIGHLY recommend e-cigs. Much like the CPAPs stories you read here if at first you dont like e-cigs try different ones and different oils and cartridges and stick with it for a month, it will take.
You can smoke indoors with no smell, its cheap and has that throat kick (and then some) and is much better for you.
I also switched to drinking water and will start exercising once I have a CPAP so I have the energy.
Feeling better everyday.

Re: Smoking
I m glad someone posted about smoking and xpap.
I am a social smoker, and my sister was a two pack a day (at least) smoker. When I went to visit her, I ended up smoking and got a sinus infection I'm still dealing with a month later. The surprising thing is that my room is at the opposite end of hers and husband's bedroom, where they smoked, and when I got home and pulled my apap out of the bag, it [ireeked][/i] of cigarette smoke. When I told her, she was shocked, and quit smoking again (she had just started up again after having quite).
But maybe the e-cig might work for them, especially if people find it as satisfying as the regular thing. That way she won't have to deal with the bad effects of smoking and stinking up her house (which she hates), and my machine won't smell.
I'll have to check them out.
Thanks!

Re: Smoking
Well, be careful, there's lots of ecig scammers out there selling $5-10 units for over a hundred bucks. If anyone is serious about quitting and starting to use an ecig as an alternative, I highly recommend doing a lot of reading first. By far the best place to read is ECF forums:
http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/
There's a wealth of infomation on that website. I've converted quiet a few smokers to ecigs. It's best if you tell them that it is NOT a quit smoking aid, it's more of an alternative to smoking. I always tell folks to get all the hardware, find flavors they like, and try using it to "supplement" their smoking. When they feel the urge to smoke, use the ecig and see if the urge goes away (it will as long as they have the proper nicotine level in their juice). Then, if it doesn't help, go ahead and smoke. It's important they keep doing this, eventually, they will "forget" about smoking....that's what worked for me. Honestly, after 2-3 weeks I forgot about smoking. After a couple of months now I find myself repulsed by smoking. My taste and smell have returned and now I cannot stand the smell of burning tobacco.

Re: Smoking
I don't think that smoking makes much of a difference when using CPAP. I smoked for about years while using CPAP and stopped smoking about 7 years ago.
Re: Smoking
I smoked a pack a day for over 25 yrs. Quit 1 yr ago using Swedish Snus. Healthier, less expensive and still get Vitamin N. Trust me, I tried everything to quit and this smokeless, spit-less product has been in Sweden for over 200 yrs. Note: the American version ( Camel Snus) is full of sugar and less nicotine and not a good product to quit smoking.
