Post your longest apnea events....
So I was looking back at some data from a while ago, before I had my settings figured out like I do now, and the data was very very scary.
I had more than a few times per night, where I would have an apnea of 40-45 seconds, then one deep breath, then immediately another 40-45 second apnea.
Lately, my AHI is down below 10 (trying to get it below 2) and the longest events I have are 10-12 seconds...but seeing that old data was really scary for me.
How bad is that in the grand scheme of things...and what are your worst/longest apnea events?
Now I'm scared to even nod off on the couch without my machine....40 seconds at time is really bad...I know in my sleep study I was desatting to 77%....

Re: Post your longest apnea events....
my longest was during my sleep study - 58 seconds. There were actually several over 50 seconds. Odd thing is that my O2 never went below 90%. After starting PAP the longest was early on and from best I could tell, somewhere between 20-30 seconds. Now, not so many and not so long. If I can only get the leak issue straightened out again.

I had a bad leak until I figured out the solution: Crank down my mask until its so tight my jaw is sore every day, all day.
At least now I have zero leak...the jaw soreness is nothing compared to the headaches I was getting.

Be careful with the sore jaw... can lead to TMJ if you're not careful!

I've tried a lot of settings, strap tightness variations, etc...but my pressure is high enough that I have bad leak unless the mask is really tight...and when its that tight, I get a lot of jaw soreness.
TMJ sucks but its manageable...a stroke at age 50 is not so manageable.

Re: Post your longest apnea events....
My longest during first sleep study was 87 seconds (multiple in that range throughout the night). Since using the cpap, I think the longest I've seen in the Resmed software are some Central's around 30+ seconds. Most are in the 10-18 range.

Be careful of assumptions about what CPAP software is telling you.
For ResMed software (S7, S8; uncertain about S9), ResScan quantifies data into 60 second intervals.
You may have two (or more) apneas during a single 60-second period. ResScan software graphs display the latest apnea in front, and earlier ones behind it. The duration marker for the earlier event may not be readable. (Older AutoScan software displayed only the most recent event, even if an earlier event was longer.)
More importantly, an apnea event may overlap two successive intervals (starts during one 60-second interval, and continues into the next); the durations during EACH interval will be presented. If apneas are reported during contiguous intervals, there is no way to tell whether the apnea was continuous, or whether there were separate, distinct events during each interval.

127 seconds........ that's TWO MINUTES, SEVEN SECONDS........
during my sleep study...... several around the 90 second to 2 minute mark, but the longest was 127 seconds. Been much better since I got my machine.

Looking at the detailed data for Flow Rate, with the data view window set to 30 seconds will show you exactly how much air you moved in and out of your lungs.Velbor wrote:Be careful of assumptions about what CPAP software is telling you.

I use that to correlate when I have clustered events, to see how long it really was between breaths.

Re: Post your longest apnea events....
Actually, the system has no sensors to measure air flow "in and out of your lungs". It can only measure air flow out of the blower, and then make some "educated" adjustments about mask venting and leak.parabellum wrote:[Looking at the detailed data for Flow Rate, with the data view window set to 30 seconds will show you exactly how much air you moved in and out of your lungs.

But your key point is well taken. With the S9 (and with S7 or S8 plus the ResLink module), there is more frequent data sampling available than the 60-second quanta, which can be used to help interpret the standard detailed graphics.

Velbor, you ole dog!!!! GOOOD to see you posting. I thought maybe you'd moved on to bigger and better things maybe.
Last night I slept 9:02 hours w/AI 0.3 - HI 2.3 - AHI 2.6 - Time in Apnea 0.1% - Leak 0/0/13.2 - Pressure 12/13/13.8
I'm running bi-level auto IPAP 17, EPAP 11. I had a 29 second apnea followed 4 minutes later by a 31 second apnea that probably combined effect woke me up this morning. I can't remember when I've had one, much less two, apneas lasting over 20 seconds.

Re: Post your longest apnea events....
More than a minute, several times per night.
Let me explain:
Prior to moving to ASV unit, my BiPAP unit (with an auto-off feature that turns off if the mask is removed for more than one minute) would turn off several times per night. So, I know that I had several events per night where I would stop breathing for more than a minute.
As you might imagine, my head hurt quite a bit after those bad nights. Of course this also led to uncontrolled high blood pressure.

Re: Post your longest apnea events....
Well...last night was my 3rd night on APAP. I knew things were not going well on the 2nd night when my wife woke me up after some "gagging" sounds that were followed by about a minute of silence...52 seconds to be exact.
When I looked at the waveform as raw data, it was the 8th event in a 10:02 minutes span. The events were 22s, 38s, 34s, 32s, 40s, 32s, 12s, 52s...so, about 262 out of 602 seconds that I wasn't breathing. I am very new at all this, but it seems that if this "positive pressure" thing were working I wouldn't stop breathing 43 percent of the time.
On the bright side, my AHI is down from 58.8 to 11.9 after the 3rd night.
I'm using the PR1 in Auto with min/max at 4cm-18cm.
This is suppose to be a 2-week trial. Should I just press on for the remainder of the trial period, or give the doctor a call?

Re: Post your longest apnea events....
My sleep study recorded an apnea of 120 seconds. I wouldn't believe it if he didn't put that part of the chart in the report.

59 seconds, it was a central apnea.
