At war with my Papcap?

Post by jlk » Tue Nov 23, 2010 9:53 pm

For the last several mornings I have woke up with my Papcap covering my eyes. I assume I am having trouble keeping my mouth shut (something I have a problem with at times when awake also ) Has anyone had this problem and /or have any ideas? It worked great for several weeks but I think I am fighting it. I don't have any congestion and am running 9.4/12 auto and average about .3 ahi, but appearantly feel a need to mouth breathe. I have put it on pretty tight and still seem to be able to roll it forward over eyes. Can't see clock w/o taking mask off and loosening cap with the "peel-the-wife-off-the-ceiling-velcro-noise", I think I may sew some bra clips on one side so I can remove it silently thanks, john

Some folks use pieces of Velcro (the stiff bit) on the inside back strap of the FX headgear. Maybe it would work for your Papcap.
I was thinking of sewing the rubbery band of an old thigh-high inside the back of my home-made biker bandanna chincap to make it stop drifting over my forehead. They don't slide down the leg for a reason. . .

Odd, I got my PapCap 6 weeks ago and the past 2 weeks or so its been sliding over my eyes or off the back of my head. I thought the issue is that my hair is longer, there is a lot more of it to slide around on.

I ordered one a few months ago- and the size was WAY too small for my head-I am not an alien or anything, but the largest size would maybe have fit my 3 yr old grand-daughter. Of course, since it had been opened, I am stuck with it- but there was NO way I could ever get it on my head to even see if it would work. It gets a big thumbs down in general from me...

Are you getting enough humidity from your humidifier?

I noticed I have need to increase the humidity setting as the temperature is going down outside, I imagine the air is becoming more dry in the house; the humidifier was at 2 and now it's at 4.

Last night I woke up choking, it had happened at least on 3 different times since the beginning of Autumn. What happened this night is that the tank was at 25% and working because it was hot, I imagine I was not getting enough humidity. I filed up the tank, put some humidifier spray in my nostrils and felt asleep as nothing had happened until the morning.

I suggest you to verify the humidity level you are getting.

Wearing it too tight may be the problem... I have found when I wear it more tightly, it does tend to slip down more. I know this seems counter-intuitive, but that has been my experience with it.

I gave up on mine I would wake up in the morning with that think all the way over my eyes, I have been taping my mouth for the last year had tried the red chin strap but too hot . Just recently started using the Respironics white chin strap and so far seems to be working . New DME provider has been very helpful and knowledgeable I can now talk to hubby all night if want. He's sooooo happy

Those of you having problems with your PapCap, I suggest you email Bret: sales@pur-sleep.com

He may have suggestions to help. I love my Papcap Plus and wear it every night.

With the new fairly recent design i was told that you can roll it up at the sides.

I prefer the comfort of the new design but and am forced to use the old old because that is the one that stays put.

I measured my head and was 1/4 inch into the large category, so I ordered large and thought maybe I needed the med. size, so I washed it in hot water and dried it in the dryer, it didn't shrink much. I am going to stitch 2 inch X 8 inch RV shelf liner padding over my "poll" area where most friction takes place, it keeps our plates, etc from sliding around. I need to find a happy medium on tension where I don't mouth breathe, but don't pull it over my eyes. Try to sell your Papcap on cpapauction, mine was great at first, don't know if it stretched or I have found a way to fight it. john

Check with Bret at pur-sleep--he stands behind his product. You are not stuck. It can be returned.

Interesting... I've been trying to get it as tight as possible (the cap portion)
