Leftover water

Post by Duane Lord » Sat Oct 23, 2010 3:56 pm

I always, always have at least 2/3s of my water left from the previous night. What happens if I add more to it instead of throwing it out and starting fresh?

Why don't you just fill it up 1/3. Problem solved.

I considered that, but aware that a little black cloud seems to hover over me, I worried that one night it might work as directed and burn out if I put less water in than directed.

I usually keep mine about half full, just adding what I need to manintain for a week, and at the end of the week use it to water plants or add to my fish tank. Technically you're supposed to change it every day to avoid having bacteria or mold decide to make their home in your humidifier...

Will not hurt a thing if it runs out. Mine has run out before. It also will not hurt to go 2 or 3 days with throwing out the water. So fill it up and just check every night before you go to bed. Just make sure your using distilled water and every thing will be fine.

The water in my tank will last more than a week. I change it every weekend, clean the tank, and fill it with fresh water. I'm not too worried about mold or nasties. It's sealed in my humidifier chamber pretty well. It's not an entirely closed system, but pretty close to it.

I'm prone to colds and upper respiratory infections, but I haven't had a single one since starting CPAP in February, even when my kids have brought nasty viruses home from school. This is something of a record for me. I think CPAP helps.

I think if you are using distilled water it would not hurt to add more to it.

I just top mine off every week. Don't use too much as it's very humid here--I'm 2 miles from the beach--so the water lasts a long time. Only empty it if I'm packing up to travel.

I have only gotten a cold once in the last three years ::knocking on wood:: I never change my water, only add to it.

I think its the penicillin I'm growing in the humidifier

Mine runs dry is passover from time to time and I don't even notice it. However, if it was heated I would imagine it could be quite another story. Some have reported getting a charred smell.

I was told to empty the water every morning and clean it weakly with vinegar water. We have well water that is very hard water. She said it was fine to wash it with well water with vinegar. My thinking is that if I put distilled water in a clean container it wouldn't spoil so why should I have to throw out water every morning. I keep my filter clean. I don't understand the need.

I pour the left over distilled water out each morning. for the cost of distilled water why take a chance on growing something in the tank. saving that penny might cost you more in the long run.

I top off the tank everyday and clean tank with liquid Ivory soap every week or two. I have been doing this for almost a year without finding any "creepy crawlers" growing in the tank. I also have not had a cold since starting on CPAP last January.
