RemStar Auto vs ResMed S8 vs GoodKnight 420

Post by RobbyRobert » Wed Nov 23, 2005 11:16 am

Since I now have a new insurance company, I get to get a new machine. My first machine is only 6 months old, a RemStar Pro with humidifer. Unfortunately, no smart card data as it is not a Pro2.

I want to get an APAP to see if it might help even more than a CPAP. My sleep study pressure was 6, although I have since raised it to 7 with better results, but no real data to back it up. I recently switched to the Mirage Swift from the Breeze and really like it.

From what I can tell, the RemStar Auto. ResMed S8 and GoodKnight 420 are 3 of best machines available. The question is, which one should I get and why?

I would love to hear any and all opinions. I have to live with this machine for the next few years, so I want to make the right decision.

Hello,

cpap.com created and maintains these charts. The link from the ASAA boards to the cpap.com page was removed. Here are the originals.

CPAP Compare Chart

https://www.cpap.com/cpap-compare-chart/CPAP

APAP Compare Chart

https://www.cpap.com/cpap-compare-chart ... sting-CPAP

Please note that cpap.com, the for profit company, has these charts and offers them free, whereas the non-profit asaa forums not only doesn't have them, they block you from getting them.

Is their blocking about education or control? Is information evil when it helps you decide on the right CPAP or APAP? Is it evil to tell people whats what, then offer them the machine they want at a greaty reduced price? No - it is not.

Quite a poor showing ASAA. It's all about helping people, right?

I just got the S8 apap. Love it! I feel so much better than cpap. Nice and compact too. Easy for travel. Good luck.

JohnnyG:

I agree with YOU 100%!! Your companys deserve our support IMO because this site i am sure costs some big bucks and I for one see nothing wrong with doing business with a company who goes out of thier way to to help thru this site or when you call and who does business the old fashion way - Putting the customer first! I have been doing business with CPAP.COM for a long time, my last order being 10/28/05 and it was handled like all the others-quickly and efficiently. So congrats on the GREAT job YOU and the rest of your STAFF do, this site only made us better informed and allowed us to get better info through all the great posters so we all can make better buy decisions! I appreciate this site Johnny and i wish you all the best in the future!

best to you,
happy thanksgiving!

steve,

Off the original topic, but I just had to add my kudos too! I'm 3 months into cpap and have ordered from cpap.com several times. Everyone with whom I've had contact has been immensely helpful, curteous, knowledgeable, etc., etc. I can't say enough about the personnel, the products, and the service and value overall. I can also add that I don't know how I every would have managed starting on cpap without this board. I suppose I would have managed somehow, but if all I had to work with was my DME provider? Well, I shudder to think of it! Let me add my note of gratitude to this as well. Thanks CPAP.COM!

As for machines, I just received a 420E and am very pleased. I posted a review in another thread and won't repeat that here, but it's a good unit, for sure, feature-packed and very easy for travel. Can't go wrong with it, I don't think. I haven't tried the others, but can at least chime in on the PB unit.

I've got the S8 as well, and it really is a very good machine, well made, quiet and effective - good display, good humidifier, easy for travel etc.. Can't talk about the machines, but I can say that the resmed units are very good from my own experience. I use the breeze with the S8 and they work together very well.

Johnny,

My research has led me to believe that the S8 vantage is the best auto by far and so in a few months I plan to off load my RemStar auto & get the s8 vantage.

I also promise that when I do it will be from cpap.com. I have a friend who also has a RemStar & also plans to do the same (one of my lab rat team).

We both value cpap.com & what you do for the cpap community.

Cheers
