i guess i assumed that since your not actually putting the oils inside the machine that it's sitting beside it, it wouldn't negatively affect the machine. i won't do it though lol maybe i'll try out the sample pack. how much does it go for?

My favorites are Peace and Deep. The aromatherapy does seem to make being a hosehead less annoying. Clear is nice if I'm stuffed up. I'll have to try the vinegar in the tank trick. I have a friend who puts a dab of Vick's in the water, but I don't think that's good for the machine.

Did you try pur-sleep.com? I just ordered the ultimate starter pack from there and got a confirmation email that the order is filled. Goes for $29.99 + shipping (I don't have any affiliation so hope it's ok to put this on here).

Nice to hear there is a scent that works if you are stuffed up, excited to try it!

So happy to have found this site. Last night was my second night on CPAP. The worst part was the plastic smell in the evening and the not-so-lovely scent of my stale breath in the morning. It just felt so . . . 'clinical'. I thought of rubbing some lemon oil or something on the mask but didn't want it that concentrated and didn't want to damage the mask. Never even thought about the air intake. Duh... I own a shop that sells essential oils and could get them wholesale, but I'm happy to pay a reasonable amount to benefit from other's experience. You can spend a lot of money trying out blends you don't like. And all essential oils are not created equal. I'm actually looking forward to trying this out. I can fantasize that I'm at an exclusive spa having an aromatherapy treatment. I will probably try my own blends at some point, but to start I ordered the $34.99 starter kit and the 5 pack of extra oils. With all the samples, I will have 16 blends to try out (though I might skip the bubble gum flavor). That should keep me amused 'till I figure out how to deal with the other irritations.

These are "essential oils" and are natural not man made. You never want to use any man made oils with your machine or other equipment. I believe they would have a negative effect on your machine. You simply place 2-3 drops of the fragrance of your choice on a diffuser pad and place the pad in front of the air intake filter on your machine. The pads can be washed and re-used but you should only use one pad for one fragrance unless it is washed before using another.
All the oils are "man made" and and it used to be that the artificial "aircandy frangrances" had white caps are to distniguish them from the essential oils (blue caps on those). I wonder if that distinction has been kept.

No problem in mixing smells if that's what you like.

I read the product info and they made a distinction between the natural, plant based essential oils and the synthetic fragrances. I, personally, would stay away from the synthetic ones. Some things just don't yield essential oils. There is no bubble gum plant that I know of. To each his own - but I don't think the scent of bubble gum would be restful anyway.

Just ordered today so I don't know if the caps are different, but the website has two different categories to order from.

Oz
I just went and looked at my stash, and the larger bottles have black lids and the little sample bottles are white. Some of the sample bottles say essential oils and some do not, ie. bubblegum, creme, black cherry etc. So in a nutshell, it says what it is (essential oils or not) on the label.
Cheers

the sample pack i was looking to order was actually 5.00 not incl. shipping. it's just a few little samples to try. i'd rather do that first to see if i like having a scent in my mask. i haven't used the citrus wipes i got yet as they smell like cleaning solution ick

I asked the technician who introduced me to my machine and mask if I needed those citrus wipes I keep seeing advertised. She said something like "There will always be gimmics to get people to part with their money." She recommended Ivory dishwashing liquid - few chemicals and no bleach. It has a nice light scent.

Aromatherapy can be irritating to the lungs--found out the hard way. But I'm the canary in the coalmine, so pay no attention to what I'm saying here.

I wonder if having that stuff in your machine could become a problem if you develop a sensitivity to it. Hmmmm....

I wouldn't put anything 'in' the machine. I'm thinking that the amount that gets into the air from outside - through the filter- wouldn't be enough to accumulate in the machine. I'm going to try putting a few drops of lavender essential oil on a cotton ball tonight and leave it maybe 6 inches from the air intake. I only want to fall asleep more pleasantly, not inhale it all night. I'll post my results tomorrow.
