Sweating at night.

Post by Patrick A » Mon Jul 05, 2010 9:25 am

How many of you suffer from night sweats?
Some nights I sweat like a sive, I don't care if I am wearing a sweat shirt and sweat pants, flannel pajama, fleece anything and or a t-shirt and shorts or nothing at all. ( I know you can picture that now)
I know I have menopause , then again there are nights that I don't sweat. Go Figure.

Patrick, honey, that sounds EXACTLY like menopause! This means you are a medical marvel and should be able to make loads of $$$$$ selling your story. I'm just sayin'.

He is the second man here on our forum to have menopause. That concerns me a little bit.

My husband's head sweats so bad I have to constantly buy him new pillows. I can wash them once then the second time they turn to crap. I have rolled over and got a whiff or touched his wet pillow. Yuck. Is this male menopause? Will it ever stop?

Acid reflux can cause night sweats. It might be worth getting checked out. If you have it, damage to the esophagus can occur.

I used to - pre-CPAP. That's one of the first things that improved.

Patrick, excessive night-sweating can be a symptom of many things, including inadequately treated sleep apnea. Have you noticed that your AHI/AI is higher on those nights? You may want to track that. Blood sugar okay? Also, is your blood pressure well-controlled? I used to sweat a lot when I was very overweight, but that could have been due to high blood pressure too. I would be hot during the day then also. I don't have that problem anymore.

Acid reflux causes night sweats? Where did you hear that one? I seriously doubt that there's any connection.

Regardless of how comfortable I am temp-wise when I go to sleep, I will wake up a few hrs later hot & sweaty, so I sleep in a superlightweight short nightshirt, ditched the top sheet (too hot) in favor of a lightweight microfleece blanket (much cooler than a sheet and that washes/dries quickly), and have a vertical fan facing the bed that has a remote control so I don't have to unhook to turn on.

"In cases without other physical symptoms or signs of tumor or infection, drug side effects are often determined to be the cause of night sweats."

I also was a bad night time sweater. Would wake up to a wet pillow and soaked sheets.. That stopped the first night I was on CPAP. x 1 billion This alone is worth wearing the mask for.

I had terrible night sweats for many years. Because I'm female and "that age" I assumed they were peri-menopause (alhtough it was beginning to be the longest menopause in history!).

When I started on CPAP they STOPPED.

About 2 months in they came back.

My numbers looked good, very low AHI's, no leaks, etc.

But we did notice my maximum pressure was bumping up against the limit a lot of every night. We increased my pressure by 2 cm, and the night sweats stopped. So far (about 1 month) they have NOT returned, despite hot weather and warm night.

I really do think it had something to do with SA.

It is so nice to be without these horrible night sweats
