Hello heavyweights,
First, Happy Birthday to FJC, Wader, Bill & Julia. However, none of you are excused from the scale. Fess up now so next week will be better.
My little pilgrimage started a couple of weeks ago in my MD's office. The liar told me I weighed 268, AND, he only had one of those scales where you have to adjust the weights on a ruler sort of thing at the top. Very easy to screw up.
Anyway, got taken up by his lies and phony scale and rushed out, joined Weight Watchers and bought a new digital scale. The old one was just as inefficient as my doctor's and the numbers were very hard to read - the display was very dusty and I had to lean way forward to even see it.
Joining WW doesn't mean you have to actually do anything food or exercise wise. Especially if you simply join for the on-line program, no meetings! Yeah, yeah - I will have a look at it some day.
Back to the new fangled digital scale. Right off the bat, a week ago or so ago it seemed to be a little more accurate than my old one or the lying doctor's. I mean, 266.something is better than 268.whoknowswhat? don't you think! And this morning, right out of bed and of course after peeing (damn water pills) I was a svelte 262.something, but not very much.
So anyway, it's a start. But I am looking around for a better scale!
My family MD said I have diabetes and is scheduling an appointment with the diabetes clinic as well as my cardiologist. Loosing weight is really important but, especially in my case, very hard to do. Just have no will power for this sort of thing and really enjoy all the good tasting stuff.
I believe this thread is really important. It is one small anonymous way to remind us to take control of our lives and enhance our well being. Not only for ourselves, but for those who love and depend on us. Not sure if I'm going to make it- if the weight doesn't kill me my conscience will.
Think thin people!

You are too much. Got a good morning chuckle from this one, thanks.unclebob wrote:Hello heavyweights,

Though, with diabetes, it's something you really need to take seriously if you want to be around to make us all smile for a while longer. Please take care of yourself. We like having you around.

Hey Bill..you did have a lousy week...so sorry!!!! I hope this gives you the incentive to be a little more watchful with your diet. I guess it was that Thanksgiving dinner that put you over the edge. Hang in there Bill...we're all "rooting" for you (not sure I spelled that right...still on drugs).WAFlowers wrote:I saw the doc this week and got depressing news. In the past 10 weeks I gained 5 lbs. Plus, since my last blood test 3 months ago my blood sugar has gone up and my cholesterol has gone crazy!
It has been a bad week, all 'round. I'll post more details in the MIA thread about me.
You can do it!!!

Just wanted to clarify this one thing: I DID know I was losing weight (I had teken in two notches on my belt), but didn't know HOW much until I got on the scale at the Dr.'s office. After all, their scales are the ones that really count.
Have a good weekend.

After your clarification, then let me ask you this. Did you try to lose the 20 lbs. or it just came off? And your answer will determine whether or not I'm still talking to you, after I hear it.
LoRi, he's a male... of course he lost weight "without trying." It's the same as how we men can find our way without asking directions. LOL
Sincerely,
wading thru the muck of the sleep study/DME/Insurance money pit!

Lori,
BOY, you sure know how to put a guy on the spot!
Well, I'm going to be honest and let the chips fall where they may.....
I HAVE been trying to change my diet SOME....due to the fact that I'm a borderline type 2 diabetic, but I haven't been outright TRYING to lose weight. So, I think there's a "combination of ingredients" at work. I definitely DO want to lose more weight (lots of it), but I want to do it in a way that I can keep it off FOREVER! Too many "diets" starve the dieter for SOMETHING and then when the person goes off the diet, the weight comes back on and then some. I'm just trying to make a lifestyle change that will work. Prior to the last 10 months or so, I really didn't eat that much anyway......my body functions were just out of whack and it (calories, fat, etc.) wasn't being burned (metabolized) properly.
I definitely believe that the CPAP is helping in this regard.
OK......That's my story and I'm stickin' to it.....
Best wishes,
Den
