POSSIBLE OR NOT?

Post by daddycoop » Thu Apr 29, 2010 10:20 pm

I have a BIPap, did have a Cpap, but did not work more complications than not, so they switched me to a BiPap.
Question is, I have had it set what the settings for about 9 months now, I FEEL NO DIFFERENT THAN IF NOT WEARING IT, Just had a complete heart workup and all was good there, STILL HAVE THESE SIGNS,LEG SWELLING WITH PITTED EDEMA X3, SHORTNESS OF BREATH, LIKE A FOOTBALL IN MY STOMACH AREA, WORSENS ON BENDING OVER, AND I AM 14% BODY FAT SO NOT THAT, AND CHRONIC FATIQUE, I wake up and could go back to bed again, and have NO ENERGY.
The docs say they again want to check my BiPap everything, including settings, with an AUTO? Could settings do that much to me, would I not get some relief, even if wrong, know top number is set at 18, so it is high, but auto!
DO YOU FOLKS THINK IT COULD BE SETTINGS? EVER HEARD OF THAT?

Some blood pressure meds cause fatigue. I was on toprol XL which slowed my heart down so much that it caused fatigue and edema. I finally figured the problem out for myself and suggested a change to my NEW doctor. It worked and the new doctor could never figure out why the cardiologist put me on the Toprol anyway. My NEW Cardiologist couldn't figure it out either.
You might also have your testosterone checked it could help with the fatigue. Mine was way low. I was amazed at the results.

I am also on Avalide 300/25. I found a google that seems to support what you suspect and I am placing it below. I would think you would want a complete check on the kidneys and the liver function to rule those out.
Powerlifting is a pretty sedentary life style so you might try some more cardio to gain stamina. If you are using creatine it might be causing you to retain excess water. Burn out from lifting?? Depression?? Just guessing on the last four..???

That is a very good idea... I second that.

I had kidneys and liver functions all ok, all blood work within specs, NO creatine, NO burn out 3 days a week, and if I have any depression wife give it to me.

Sounds to me like something is DEFINATELY not right ... might be a good idea to seek a 2nd opinion - sounds like your existing doc is completely missing something.

Agreed on the second opinion and to be honest I think you should really push to get in as soon as possible. Cutting out all salt and going on a low carb diet might help the edema but if it is a heart problem that might not be the best thing as far as making the heart happy. My sodium and potassium levels always went crazy on a low carb diet which gave me palpatations. Good luck

You don't mention anything about your machine's statistics. What does the data show about the effectiveness of your CPAP therapy?

Your settings could be wrong and/or you could be having large mask leaks. This could result in many apneas and RERAs throughout the night.

The first thing to check is the data your machine records.

If you don't find the answer in the Data as Rooster has suggested you might want to find a diagnostician/diagnosticians and see what he or they can come up with.
