Carry On Bags $30 each!!!

Post by Muse-Inc » Tue Apr 06, 2010 8:45 pm

Listening to news while reading/posting. While my brain doesn't multi-fuction well, I think I just heard that the airlines are going to start charging $30 per carry on...wonder if that includes our xPAP travel bags.

Just curious while on the subject, does carrying on a machine count as one of the allowed carry ons or is is in addition to that rule?

In the US, it's considered a medical device and does not count toward carry on; however, if what I heard was accurate, the airlines might be trying to 'mess' with the TSA regs.

A medical device which is required as life support equipment (such as a cpap machine) shall not be counted as carry on baggage. Just make sure that you don't try to stick other items in with the medical equipment or you'll probably be charged extra for it.

Best thing is to acquire written info direct from the transportation regulatory body just before your planned trip. Be proactive and not reactive and you'll never be caught by surprizes.

I thought I heard that (so far) it was only one airline and the cost was $45 per carry-on.

Doesn't affect me, I live in a no-fly zone, I opt to stay home, where I belong, and no longer am cooped up in a alum cigar tube, wasting jet fuel like i'm a senator. while I'm not a tree huger I do enjoy breathing clean air, and look forward to having enough fuel to do important things, like run my truck and T.V.s. Per CNN online news:
Spirit Airlines announced Tuesday that it will charge its customers $20 to $45 for items they place in the overhead bins.

The cost depends on whether passengers are members of the airline's ultra-low fare club and whether they "pre-reserve" their carry-on bag in advance.

I always remember something a Scottish Comedian (Frankie Boyle) once said when he was asked why doesn't he fly?...it's natural. His response was..."What's natural about being cooped up in small aluminum shell and hurled at 500 miles an hour across the globe like a chicken being fired out of a canon and breathing other peoples carbon dioxide? No thanks, I'll stay on solid ground".

So I want to get this straight. The airlines charge us for checked bags and now they want to charge us for carry on bags as well. So if you do not want to pay you have to use the same clothes you used for the whole trip. Maybe I will start to use 3 sets of clothes on me when I travel.

From what I read....Spirit Airlines said they were considering charging $45 for a carry-on, but, that they would be reducing their basic fares by $45 for everyone. Therfore if you fly with 1 carry on there should be no difference. If you fly without any carry on you should fly cheaper.... NOW......let's talk about the bridge I have for sale!

I understand they are charging for carry-on bags. Since they charge for registered luggages (no free luggage) almost every one is taking his/her luggage into the cabin .

Two months ago I toke a plain in Burlington Airport going to NC. I was surprised to see that at least 90% of the people had a carry-on bag and in several cases the bags were big enough. Because of the room for luggages in the cabin of that kind of plain was too small they finish registering for free the carry-on luggages, so funny

In 1966 and 1967, our government sent me on a over 17,000 mile ride in a Boeing 707, twice. I may have my own ozone hole named after me. Now I'm content to sit back and watch the world from a video and T.V. prospective. Before I do anything, I ask myself, is this trip or purchase necessary, it's really amazing the things we want but don't need, we are going to have to live smarter or we will run out of resources. We don't all have to race to keep up with the people next door. Jim

It's ONE airline. SpiritAir, a "discount fare" carrier.

They are separating services so you pay for things ala carte instead of having the guy with no baggage pay the same as the woman waddling in with a purse, laptop, carryon and three shopping bags. The better you plan in advance, the lower the fee. The rules for CPAP and other "assistive devices" remain the same.

CNN, MSNBC, LA Times and Huffington Post ALL had either misleading or downright wrong statements in their reports. For the real scoop, see:
