Question about mask setting on unit

Post by Luc » Wed Mar 10, 2010 11:00 am

Hello,

I was going through the various settings on my machine the other day and noticed the mask setting was wrong. It was set to "swift" but I use an "activa LT" . So I made the correction. But I am wondering does this have any effect on the way the CPAP machine delivers? It is set to 14cm H2O. Is this pressure not constent regardless of the mask? And if so then what's the purpose of this setting?

Thanks

Luc

You're right, Luc, the pressure is constant regardless of mask setting.
Every mask has an expected leak rate -- Resmed uses the mask info you give it to tell you how good (or how bad) your leak is -- with wrong mask info you'll have wrong leak info as well.

Hi, Luc, and welcome to the forum.

The mask setting has no bearing on how much pressure your machine is putting out. The purpose of having the correct mask setting in the machine relates to the reported leak rate you experience. Your machine factors in what the intentional flow (or leak rate) is for the mask it's set to, at the pressure setting you're using. If the mask setting is correct on the machine, you can rely on the reported leak rate; if not, the data is skewed.

Any leak reported on a ResMed machine (provided the mask setting is correct) is over and above what it should be. The goal is to have zero leaks.

Hope that helps.

I had that problem as well. My machine was set for an ultra but i have an activa. I was getting horrible leak info back. I am curious now that i changed it to activa and have also bought my chin strap gear how well this will go over the next few days.
