new CPAP user
Hello bedeer here thank you for this helpful site & all you folks. Have sleep apnea for over 20 years. Felt more tired than my aunt of 84 yrs. & my mother of 87 yrs. , sad... Received my CPAP 1 week ago. Feeling a different kind of tired, more of a body tired versus a deep overall tired . Only one problem so far , wake up with a very dry mouth. Any advice?
Re: new CPAP user
Hi, you very likely end up sleeping with your mouth open, and lose all the Cpap air that way, so definitely look into full face masks so that you can sleep however you end up, but not waste the 'good' air.
Re: new CPAP user
Hi,
new users often breathe thru mouth at first, even if they breathe thru nose when awake, tape the lips or use a full face mask, a humidifier is needed for a FF mask

Your body is adjusting and repairing itself to this thing called sleep. You may feel this type of body tired for a while. But you will start to wake up feeling ready to tackle the day. It might take a while, since you had untreated OSA for so long.bedeer wrote:... Received my CPAP 1 week ago. Feeling a different kind of tired, more of a body tired versus a deep overall tired . ...
Sounds as if you are a mouth breather. You might want to try a chin strap and/or a full face mask. Also you may need to adjust the humidifer, but I suspect it is due to air rushing out of your mouth rather than staying in your airway.bedeer wrote:... Hope that helps.

I think you are sleeping with your mouth open. Try to use tape.

Hi all,
I was wondering, whenever I see mouth breathing listed as a problem, and many ways to overcome it, I never see anything mentioned about the Oracle 452.
As a mouth breather, I would be lost without mine, doubt I could have ever made peace with my CPAP, I was ready to throw it in the driveway and run over it with the car!

There was a thread on this forum a few days ago about the Oracle mask: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=48440. It seems that most people who have tried it don't care for it. I'm glad to hear that it works well for you and prevented you from giving up on CPAP altogether! I hope you're getting good results from your therapy.sleepnow wrote:I was wondering, whenever I see mouth breathing listed as a problem, and many ways to overcome it, I never see anything mentioned about the Oracle 452.

Bedeer here, Thank you for the responses. I believe I need a full facial mask. There was a mention of tape, what type of tape is used? Have been using a nylon sock tied at the top of my head, as a chin strap, does not work. I will be contacting my sleep tech tomorrow, but I can use even one nights sleep. Wish everyone a pleasant Sunday .
Re: new CPAP user

Hello & Welcome, bedeer! Glad you found this forum—SO much useful info and everyone here is so willing to help!
You're lucky to have found this forum as you begin CPAP—took me almost year before I found this place and, with the help of folks here, got my CPAP therapy working as it should. It does take time to get everything tweaked and working at its best, so patience is key as one begins CPAP.

Hello bedeer here, Just waiting to see if they can fit me in today for a full face mask. Cross your finger with & for me. Thank you for the support much appreciated. Will keep you posted on the turnout.
Re: new CPAP user
Please let us know how it goes once you're using the full face mask, bedeer. I hope that will help your therapy be more effective and you'll feel less tired soon.

Hi Bedeer here - fwiw even when I used a FFM I had dry mouth. I keep a bottle of Propel by the bed(eer)bedeer wrote:Bedeer here, .. .
Using nasal pillows now, I am quite adept at wetting my mouth with out removing my headgear. I use Propel bc it restores the Ph balance quicker than just water. I understand, it is the Ph balance that aids in keeping germs in check.

I have no doubt, how I sleep affects every waking moment.
I am making progress-NOW I remember that I can't remember

If this isn’t rocket science why are there so many spaceshots?

Re: new CPAP user
Hello everyone, Bedeer here, well got my full face mask yesterday . It is a Mirage Quattro, adjusted the humidity and I slept. I awoke once. The bridge of my nose was sensitive this morn, and it was hard sleeping on my side (mask & pillow don"t mix) but I corrected that with a pillow supporting my under chin. So far so good , a little twea king, which keeps me inventing ways of comfort. Once again thank you all & I will keep in touch.
Re: new CPAP user
I'm constantly tweaking things too! Good to hear that the Quattro seems to be working out for you and you slept well. You may want to put a bandaid on your nose bridge at night for a while to prevent it from turning into a sore. (I used the small, round ones.) I found that my nose "toughened up" after awhile, but you can't let it get bad! Experiment with the adjustment dial on the nose bridge too. See if it works for you with the bridge dialed out farther, with the top straps looser. If you continue to have uncomfortable pressure there, you may need to try another size to see if that helps.
I hope all continues to go well for you! It sounds like you're on the right track.

Welcome to the board, bedeer!
Sounds like with some comfort tweaking, the Full Face mask is going to work out ok for you. If for any reason it doesn't, or if you ever want to switch on some nights to a non-FF mask and need to tape, here's a link to more than anyone could possibly want to read about taping... LOL!! Me, I use 3M blue painters tape -- you can get it at home improvement stores.
