+1

It's best to "play the ball not the man" if you find yourself disagreeing with someone else's point of view.

I'm from flat old Chicago, where we can usually manage some snow, but there isn't a decent hill in the whole state. The picture is just one I like because it seems like such a silly place to be carrying a briefcase, but there's no telling with lawyers.
Yes there are hills here in Chicagoland, they just started out as landfills! I am originally from NH and even after 17 years of living here miss the mountain views.

Their are plenty of mountains in Illinois especially around the Chicago area. Just follow some of the politicians around and pay attention so you don't step in one of those mountains.

Isn't there snow skiing around Lisle or somewhere in that area? Seems like there used to be back when I was going to school there often. Maybe not a mountain, but there must be some sort of elevation there.

You can ski the on and off ramps of I88 when it snows around lisle they usually wait for it to melt instead of plowing.

Yes. I am very familiar with the solar method of snow removal. It seems to be very common in these parts this year, too.

I had a good boss who tried to not send us to Lisle in the winter, and I think I was only in Lisle once when it snowed. I remember getting a little bit nervous when someone explained why the fire hydrant in front of the building had a red flag on it. The top of the hydrant was still visible when the snow ended though. I never knew if that was really the reason for the flag.

Yes the red flag is so that the fire department can find the fire hydrants so that they can shovel them out. It doesn't get that deep around here as often as it used to but they are predicting 7-9 inches tonight and tomorrow and the plows could burry them easily at that depth!

Na, the original intention of those flags was for the drunks to see them better to navigate into them.

Given my experience at that particular facility, I don't doubt that the flag may have been helpful in that respect. I kind of remember that the hydrant wasn't particularly close to where vehicles normally travel unless they were attempting to park.

Love it!

There have been times in recent years where my nerves were so frayed it would have best for me to avoid unnecessary negative input because I tended to over think things and was quite emotional. But in my general state of mind, I can dismiss stuff (and obnoxious people) without any help.

An old friend accused me of being nosey, I prefer to think I like to be informed. But the longer I'm here the easier it is to turn a blind eye to heated threads, cause they're often just heated because of a few folks blowing hot air. I don't even like hot air from my humidifier! And I quit playing "King of the Hill" when I was a kid.

Gee Mars, I bet your time spent forum browsing broke all speed records! It's times like these when the index count that shows who has posted to a thread can be utilized to avoid posters who really get our goat. (anybody know where that saying came from?)

Hi Kathy

You might find this interesting -

http://www.zyra.org.uk/getgoat.htm

Goats are beautiful creatures, so I don't blame Captain Cook for wanting his goat back.

I no longer use the foes list as I like to have a good laugh at some of the things they say, as they no doubt have a good laugh at some of things I come up with. I would like to check out the friends list, but I have yet to work out what it actually does. I know what it says it does -
Friends enable you quick access to members you communicate with frequently. If the template has relevant support any posts made by a friend may be highlighted.

but how to use it in practice is what I haven't figured out. Any ideas?

cheers

Hi, Mars.

As I think I posted somewhere upthread, I use the Friends feature. As far as I can tell, all it does is keep those on your Friends list in a handy box to the left of a PM you're composing. Once on the Friends list, each name has an "Add" button next to it. So when you're composing a PM, rather than having to search for a member and/or manually add their user name to the "To" field, you just click on the "Add" button next to the Friend's name, and the system does it for you.

I don't believe the "relevant support" re: the template is active, as I've never seen a highlighted post by someone on my Friends list.

Hope that makes sense.
