I used a large Comfort Care Pad for the first time with my Quattro last night. No problems.
There is nothing in the literature that says this product self-sticks.
http://www.cpapusa.com/product/Sleep_Co ... DetailSpec
You will see the following and I quote,
Now I could be wrong, but I interpreted this statement as self-sticking. Maybe we're interpreting the same statement differently. The pad does not require any adhesives to make it stay on your face and this is benefit over products on the market which need tapes or glue to make them stay in place.
I used it last night. Now let me say it isn't easy at all to line up under the mask. It takes a lot of patience, and for older users without full dexterity it may be very difficult to have this pad placed under the mask without moving, and kept in the correct place. Secondly, I would not recommend to those folks that have leakage challenges. It took me about 4 or 5 fittings to get it right with my mask fitting feature on my machine. Having said that, it did alleviate the indentation of the nose bridge. So basically, you can get the product to work if you've got a lot of patience and if you're good at fitting the mask perfectly.
Caveat emptor.

I believe that is the case with the entire CPAP process.GaryG wrote: So basically, you can get the product to work if you've got a lot of patience and if you're good at fitting the mask perfectly.
I do hope to hear from some people who have success with the product. I use the Hybrid mask exclusively because of intolerance of a mask touching my nose bridge. It would be nice to occasionally have some variety in mask usage and sleep all night with a traditional FFM.

Re: Protection of Bridge of Nose - New Product
Yeah, you're right. For folks who come to this site, I guess most of us are persistent and stubborn and relentless in our efforts to improve on our therapy. Good point. This product does work in that regard. Now, I must warn you, you'll see some redness under where the product lies, but the indentation in the bridge is gone.rooster wrote: I believe that is the case with the entire CPAP process.

And although others have complained of the smell, next to my flatulence, this is no big deal. I mean, my wife didn't complain to me about the smell, and I can't really smell it (but I'm noted for not smelling too well).
So you can consider this as a way to use a FF mask when you want a break from the Hybrid. I guess Hybrid has it own challenges. Nothing easy.

Re: Protection of Bridge of Nose - New Product
When putting on the pad for the first time in the evening you may consider:
1. Aligning the pad where you want it on the nose bridge while looking straight into a mirror.
2. Tilt your head back and let the pad rest on the bridge while I carefully putting on the mask.
The pad definitely sticks to your face if you take your off your mask a few hours later.
My soreness is dissipating. But in large part because I switched to a 'larger' size mask last night so the cushion would not ride on same irritated spot on my bridge.
However, I also used the Comfort Pad with the larger mask last nite and there is no redness or soreness this am.

"The flopping around comment is nonsense."
Not everyone has the same mask. I am not using a FF mask and it flops around. Nasal bulb that does hit the bridge. It flops for me given my mask.

Your mask rests on your forehead, not your nose bridge. If I were using your mask it would definitely flop around! LOL!!

Re: Protection of Bridge of Nose - New Product
I have been using the Comfort Care pad with the Quattro.
Re: leaks: I find that I have to seat and reseat the mask many times to avoid leaks (same problem I had before using it, possibly worse). But eventually it does seem to seal, although perhaps I have to keep it too tight to avoid the leaks.
Re: Red marks: I was still getting red marks on the bridge of my nose with the pad, but they were relatively tolerable. However, two nights ago something went majorly awry and I woke up with a big red welt which developed some pus in it (sorry, TMI). So I now I can't use the FF mask at all. This is triggering bad memories from when I used my first FF mask, the Full-Life. I used it for a grand total of 6 hours with no nose bridge protection and awoke with a red mark that by the end of the day had sprouted what someone else aptly referred to as a "pimple farm". I don't want to blame the Comfort Care pad (yet), as maybe in the seating and reseating of the mask, I reseated the pad (I doubt it, but anything is possible).
I don't know what else to try, as with the thin Pad-A-Cheek, my nose was red, and with the thicker one, I had leaks.

SU,
You may want to update your profile. Suggest you try possibly a Hybrid FF Mask or something like the FitLife. Neither of these touch the nose bridge.

Re: Protection of Bridge of Nose - New Product
This is my first post. I am glad this forum is available. I use CPAP and am also an experienced sleep medicine physician. I have zero financial ties to this product. The product works well in my experience. I used some samples before it was on sale. I have several patients that like it. I agree that using the larger size may not be for everybody. The smaller size maybe better for most folks. Please notice that one side of the pad is stickier than the other. It is important to place that side of the pad on the skin surface. The pad is held in place for the most part by the pressure of the mask over the bridge of the nose. The pad seems particulary good for people using the full face masks such as the Quattro. If you are using nasal pillows then obviously the pad would not be needed. Residual oil and sweat residue on the mask from previous nights can lead to the skin breaking out in some people. I would imagine the same would occur with this pad. So if your skin is breaking out, make sure you wash your face before going to sleep and have a very clean mask/ gel pad. I did not notice a smell in the samples I used nor have I heard any complaints from my patients about the smell, but thanks to your posts I will ask them. Perhaps there is something in the manufacturing/packaging they have to tweak. For the most part again, the patients have uniformly liked the gel pad. I had one person tell me tears of happiness ran down his face when he first put it on because something finally worked for his sore nose. I have seen countless people with nasal bridge sores over the years. I glad I have a new option to help them. Best of luck to all of you on this forum.
Re: Protection of Bridge of Nose - New Product
Welcome to the forum Doctor. But please do not encourage people that one side of this product is stickier than the other. That is false assumption. As a regular, happy user of this product I can assure you that one side is not stickier than the other. It is important to note that after an hour or more of wear the product, it will stick when you take the mask off.Y REM wrote:This is my first post. I am glad this forum is available. Re: Protection of Bridge of Nose - New Product
Thank you for the welcome. I thought both sides were the same when I first tried it. The manufacture, however, told me one side was a little stickier than the other, but it may be a subtle difference. They clearly want the non-logo side on the skin. Perhaps it would work fine or even better to alternate sides. Time will tell. In any case, I am glad it is working for you. I was just trying to understand what could account for complaints on this forum about it being too loose. I noticed some people mentioned using gel holiday window decorations instead. That is interesting and something I had not heard before. Maybe that would work for some people but the gel material used in these new pads is supposedly based on a medical grade material that is currently used for wound healing. No disrepect intended, but it is unlikely to be exact same material used in some cheap holiday decorations made in China. Maybe I am wrong, but I would not feel comfortable recommending putting one of those decorations over an open sore on the nose. These new pads so far have been well received by my patients. It is such an simple solution to a common problem, I wish I had thought of it!
Good night,
Y REM

I'll try the non-logo side on the skin. But regardless, as you say, it does work. My nose is completely healed. I haven't looked this good in years

Y REM, are there any other nose bridge products/techniques that your patients have had success with? Thanks.
