Temporary Repair/Fix

Post by Fredman » Thu Nov 27, 2008 9:34 pm

My hose ends have seemed to have lost their elasticity and I haven't been able to get to my DME to purchase a new one until either Friday or Saturday. The hose keeps popping off the elbow if I am not careful when I turn or even when I don't over time it works itself off.

Does anyone have a temporary fix that can get me through until I can buy a new hose? Also, does anyone purchase a back up hose for these situations?

Don't know if it would work - cable ties???

It worked well on the Swift hose that kept popping off.

think gumby is gone for the night now - not sure what tape he was looking at - maybe duct tape the connector onto the elbow

for the swift mask when the hose (small mask hose) used to pop off the connector at the swivel you could add a layer of paper first aid tape under the hose or you could rough up the connector with emery board some and then use a cable tie to hold the hose in place -

I think you have answered your own other question about having back up supplies - no one wants to make an urgent trip to the DME for a part you can get for a few $ online

Many of us have backups, and backups for our backups!

Plumbers teflon tape should come with every mask and machine. If you wrap some around the small hose then once attached, wrap some around the seam of the two hose it will hold it together for several nights, maybe even weeks.

If it's the mask-end I'd prefer tape or whatsit in english - a plastic hose that shrinks when heated.
Just to be able to clean up the mask.

Aromatherapy may help CPAP compliance. Lavender, Mandarin, Chamomile, and Sweet Marjoram aid in relaxation and sleep. Nature's Gift has these and a blend of all four called SleepEase.

It is a Good Thing to have a spare hose; they are inexpensive items.

Do you wash your hose? Well, I don't, but at times I notice a slight buildup of residue inside the rubber hose ends when they tend to want to work loose. Two things I've done are to use a little water to clean out the insides of the rubber ends and also to switch the ends....machine - mask, which also seems to let them restore their original dimensions.....since I remove the end which is attached to the humidifier more often than the one on the mask connector. Still using my original 3 1/2 year old hose.

Always a good idea to have spares!!!! The ones my DME provides are real cheapos and need replacement regularly.....
Once I find work again I intend to get a backup machine, but that's the only spare I lack!!!! I always figure if it plugs into the wall, or has those little black things with silver legs, it's gonna fail.....inevitable -- only a matter of time!!!

Good luck
cheers

Your apparent demeanor, attitude and language here seems to obviate the need for help in other areas......
Your so called "interpretation skills" also leave a lot to be desired and IMHO it's indicative of paranoid ignorance, and lack of tolerance of alternative viewpoints.....That's not what this forum is all about.....

So shut up!!

Turning the hose around (good idea!) is not something you can do with the hose meant for a PB 420e, so I use hose quick connects on both sides.
