I'm surprised Slink hasn't chimed in yet, if there was anyone who qualified as "all of the above"
someday science will catch up to what I'm saying...

well said...I'm here because I did that introspection decided to pull up my "big girl panties" and just deal with the therapy, and because I wanted a little semi anonymous accountability. You know we all can't be experts on everything, and I needed your collective experience. You all have helped immeasurably. In my humble (and rather new here opinion) if what you really need is a hug and a kiss, getting it from strangers on the Internet is well more terrifying than waking up dead. Forums and the like are great for free exchange of ideas and they do offer a great dose of reality from time to time but compassion and love are very personal things better left to warm bodies.

Can I still at least get my pat on the head? That's kinda like a hug in New England, right?

I agree with you NightWorkDaySleep. I think that the desire to be helpful to stangers is healthy. And the desire for strangers to be helpful is healthy. Even on the internet. If a board is a "location," locations can have reputations in regards to the hospitality there. Yeah, getting a metaphorical hug from a total stranger might be scary, but so is seeing a stranger coming at you with a 2X4! It's the information people come here for, but the delivery can still make a difference. I don't know the person who walks up to me on the street to ask for directions. But I do know that how I treat that person when I give those directions can make a difference about how he or she feels about getting the directions and how I feel after having given them. But I agree that the accuracy of the directions is the prime thing.

So, NightWorkDaySleep, let me at least shake your hand, if you're comfortable with that, regardless of what team you like, and whether or not I'm comfortable with your having mentioned your panties.

Well for me, my first impression of this thread when I first saw it a few days ago with nothing posted under it was, WOW!! have the forums dropped so low? Then I dismissed it as someone being ether new to the hose and in the brain fog of OSA or some new self-righteous butt nugget. I am glad my first impression was wrong.

I was at one time active on the boards here and was in the OSA fog when I first came here and most likely still am to some extent =). Now, I just lurk from time to time. I found the board to be all of the above and needed all of the above at one time or other. There are solutions to be given but sometimes, only by the right person, and in the right way, can say they say what's needed and get it to stick.

Whiners, complainers, and quitters are all in need of help and guidance through the fog of OSA. Some are far and away further down the road to hell and might take more to pull back then others. The people and solutions here a perfect mix of 2x4 and band-aids to me. You can't save everyone that is true, but at the same time, a lot of the people that come here have put up walls so high, that only the most diligent and caring person can scale them and pull the real person out from behind the wall. If you truely wish to help others, you have to be willing to put on some waders and slog through all the sewage in the way. The first step I feel though is to NOT label them because in the end, we are all human, and we are ALL whiners, complainers, or a quitter at some point in life. Labels are evil

Now back to my hose

Hand out - gentle compassion usually - unless it's obvious that's not working or it's feeding the neurosis or problem, then tough(ish) love.

Want to hear? Definitely tough love, followed straight up with gentle compassion - wake me up to the situation really well, shock value! Then explain.

Great post, Kiralynx.

Others' experience.....

I am comforted by info and organizing myself around what my options are....

I am sure some want/need the touchy-feely "you poor dear....how unfair...", etc, type of thing. I want info/experiences/research leads....

And I have found that here ; and have found the empathy rather then the sympathy-type thing.

I just realized that perhaps I don't really fit the subject of the poll?!?!?!

"whiners, complainers, quitters"...?

I'm not a quitter......

I'm not generally a whiner.....although perhaps we all have our moments. Although, when you have your space to yourself, the occassional mumbles have no ears to fall on!!!!

Complainer....? Well, complainers can sometimes be venting AND in search of possible solutions.... Well, perhaps, this is where I seem to fit when.....if you see me complaining...

Seems to me that this is largely true of others here as well.

On adult earache:
Call your health care provider if you have:
-a temperature over 102 degrees F (38.9 degrees C) that persists even after you take acetaminophen, aspirin, or ibuprofen
-a severe headache or worsening pain around the ear
-swelling around the ear
-increasing dizziness
-worsening of your hearing
-weakness of one side of your face.
