Hey guest, unless you have had SA since you were born, at one time you would have had to be a newbie...correct,

Start your own site if us newbiews bore you so much.

I am so glad Rested Gal does not think the same way you do.

Sorry if I bothered you!

JPZ you think you are above it all too!

You and guest should hang out together and come up with your own site.

You could call it "Old farts who know it all on CPAP machines" no newbies allowed.

What do you think?

Tom,

I decided to go back through YOUR postings (both as a "Newbie" and since). Just a month and a half ago you posted THIS:

[Posted: Mon Jun 13, 2005 5:53 pm Post subject: Positive attitudes and PAP success
In my participation on PAP fora for about 8 years, I have seen many initial postings from newbies. It is unfortunate that the great majority of newly diagnosed patients do not participate in fora(forums) and do not get the benefit of those who can help them. ]

Just 6 weeks later, you're complaining that the Newbie's (I HATE that word) are "...asking the same old questions...".

Well.....which way is it? When does a "Newbie" become an "all-knowing, CPAP seasoned professional, forum contributor"? 2 months? 4 months? 6 months? When they have XXXX number of posts? I started browsing the forum back in April, but didn't actually join until early July. Does that time count? I've been in the computer industry (mainframes, micros, software, etc.) for over 30 years, but will be the first to say that I don't know it all. Too many things change for anybody to be an expert on everything. I can relate this experience to what many people have gone through buying their first computer.
This is another industry/field that has quite a bit of change. Lots of combinations of factors (machines, masks, hoses, etc., etc.) that affects each person's choice on what they're going to be using. As far as I'm concerned this forum has the right mix of people, questions and answers that make it interesting and informative. We "Newbies" can't become seasoned pros without being exposed to the full range of information.

Actually I kinda like the expression "CPAP-challenged" to describe us.

Keep contributing, Tom.....we need you, too.

Give the newbies a break. You were once one too. Yeah they may ask stupid questions (in your ears), but they are the same stupid questions you once asked (or had). The fact is that ANY question that a newbie has is is NOT stupid to them, only to YOU. Sure a FAQ would be a nice addition, but if a newbie ask a question that has been ask a thousand times, it is still the FIRST time he or she has every asked it.

This forum is for ANYONE to discuss any CPAP subject. Next time you click on a thread you think is redundant, hit return and look for a another subject that pleases you.

The intolerance I see from people like "guest" is disgusting. If you're so busy "working full-time, raising families and just going about the routine chores of daily living", you don't have enough time to be reading all the post on this forum.

I don't know where your animosity towards 'rested gal' comes from, but with your attitude, I think newbies AND long term users would like YOU to "go away".

For the "Guest" who had not time and wants a "to separate the board into sections such as....."

Go to "www.apneasupport.org" and stay there.... no need to upset yourself and others here.

I have tried using the search function but when I click on Search, nothing happens
Yawn, the problem is that you have to click on the word search and not on the icom - on my first days here I though it simply doesn't work!!!

Johnny - can you people do anythig about that? The icons on the middle line (cpapopedia etc.) react to clicks, the ones on the to line don't - and that's very confusing - especially to newbies.

You are to kind. I would have told "guest" to go to a different site. Unfortunately there is no web link for that subterranean site.

My original post was about the opening of another forum and mentioned several others. I was hoping to get feedback on the relative merits of those and comments on the value others in comparrison to this one.
It was simply an observation, not a complaint that we get repetitive postings. Some seem to add gratitous rejoinders to almost any posting. This is just the nature of the poster and not a complaint.
It is perhaps inherent in this as any forum that this will always be the case.
There are always those who take the opportunity to reply with personal attacks rather than add meaningful suggestions. Some people will always be that way.
There will always be those looking for helpful information and those who desire a chat lounge format. It is easy for a person to ignore those s/he has no interest in and focus on those of interest.
But there will always be the ad hominen faction.
Comity desired, cat fights unavoidable. Your choice.
I could be wrong.

We've made these links.

Guest, instead of faulting "newbies" , why not appeal to the boards to start an "advanced" section for those such as yourself? Everyone comes here looking for a wide range of information from supportive people who've "been there." I know that your intent is not meant to be critical of others, I guess you are just being honest about what you prefer to read around here. And since you point out that you do not have time to dwell on newbie topics, the time you do have will probably be best spent on the "advanced" user board. One drawback though, if you have any issues to discuss, probably no one there will have an inclination or the time to listen.

You know when a "Newbie" posts questions you may consider too basic for you to look at, the answer is just pass it by and move on!!!! There seem to be so many supportive people on this board that are willing to give their knowledge and time to answer those "BASIC QUESTIONS".

And when the Newbie posts, remember that there are probably a hundred other newbies also reading the posts with great interest, even though they are not posting themselves. YOU thoughtful people are not just helping one person but many many people.

I love this site and have learned so much on it and hope I have been able to help others too. Whether we've been learning a short time or a long time there is always something valuable to receive and to give here....we need each other. Terry

I love talking to "newbies" in hopes I may help!!!

Post by ITeach » Thu Jul 28, 2005 9:05 am

Maybe my perception is wrong. But, I can find basic information at MANY places. I came here looking for support when I was totally freaked out about having apnea. I didn't come looking for answers. I came to find others who survived this whole ordeal and could let me know I am not alone. I may have asked simple questions, but it was because I needed to be reassured, not just educated. So, newbies with questions, feel free to send me private messages with any questions you may have. I consider myself quite educated, and much less freaked out thanks to all of the encouragement I have found within this forum.

Take care.
The only stupid question is the one that goes unasked!

Hi everyone! Geez! I have to certainly disagree with JPZ and guest over this one.No question and I repeat no question concerning this board regardless of who asks it is stupid or boring!!! The question you ask just may save a life!!!I'am a member of numerous boards and groups for lot of differant things retired military issues, antique cars and steam trains,World travel and caht groups and the new people always invariably ask the same questions and I never get tired of the many differant responses they receive. I have been on CPAP now going on 8 weeks and do feel better,I no longer consider myself a newbie(hate that term)how bout hosehead recruit! I have gained valuable insight and knowledge of OSA and its treatment and am glad I can talk to other people in the same boat as me.Please exercise a little courtesy and humility here! If you don't like "newbies" or are bored with their posts go to another site as you just stated there are plenty of websites dealing with OSA.We don't need Flamers here!!!!!

<<Geez! I have to certainly disagree with JPZ and guest over this one.No question and I repeat no question concerning this board regardless of who asks it is stupid or boring!!!>>

There has obviously been a misunderstanding. I am a newbie who took offense at the idea that experienced, knowledgeable posters should be annoyed by questions that had been answered previously "a billion times."

Later, I responded to a "Guest" posting that also indicated irritation with newbies.

I agree completely that no question is stupid, and feel that any of us should feel comfortable in asking any question at all.

Earlier in this thread, another "guest" invited me to go off to an old fart's board, implying I am a know-it-all. In fact, although an old fart, I know nearly nothing about this stuff (I just started using CPAP last month); that's why I'm here.

Up until now, I've felt this to be a very congenial and welcoming forum.
