President-pretender, J. Biden, said "the DNC has built the largest voter fraud organization in US history". Too bad they didn’t build the smartest voter fraud organization and got caught.

Hey Gasp, try heating your bedroom. I have a small space heater in my bedroom that I keep turned pretty low (with the bedroom door shut, too). It helped a bunch last night. I've been having rainout issues for the past few days since the weather turned. I'm only on 1, and I'm afraid to turn it off completely, as I'm sorta verging on getting a cold and don't want to make it worse.
Cheers,
B.

Personally, I have NO idea why anybody would want to run for ANY political office in these times. There have been towns out here in previous elections where nobody wants to be Mayor.....and some poor shmuck may get his name written in.
With regard to the presidential election, whoever gets elected is getting a ticking timebomb (or hand grenade with the pin pulled).......we're facing a global financial meltdown (Iceland is going bankrupt) and it ain't gonna be pretty.
If I were either of these two candidates, I'd say "I quit.....you can have it". It's going to be a very dubious distinction to be President of the U.S. for the next number of years.
Den (who believes there should be term limits (2) and they ALL should be voted out when they come up for election)
(but, I DO like Palin.....anybody that can skin a moose has my vote)

I couldn't care less how any of them look. All I know is, my family can't survive four more years like the last eight. McCain's four will just be a third term for Dubya. Obama's four may not be much different, but that slim chance that it might be is all I have to hope for. Vote Obama!

While I'm not really an Obama 'fan', he's definitely the lesser of two evils in my book.
Palin scares the crap out of me. She would be the LAST person I would want making decisions for our country - and as vice president, she would be far too close to getting that opportunity. I don't want anyone near that office that will be making bad decisions based on outdated religious delusions - like our current failure of a president. It's thought processes like that that promote closed mindedness, intolerance, inequality and even terrorism. Think about it....do we really want someone who thinks we are fighting some imaginary holy war and that cares more about her 'next' life than this one in charge of our armed forces?
Here's some more food for thought regarding Palin. To quote Sam Harris here -> http://www.newsweek.com/id/160080/page/1
"We want elite pilots to fly our planes, elite troops to undertake our most critical missions, elite athletes to represent us in competition and elite scientists to devote the most productive years of their lives to curing our diseases. And yet, when it comes time to vest people with even greater responsibilities, we consider it a virtue to shun any and all standards of excellence. When it comes to choosing the people whose thoughts and actions will decide the fates of millions, then we suddenly want someone just like us, someone fit to have a beer with, someone down-to-earth—in fact, almost anyone, provided that he or she doesn't seem too intelligent or well educated."

I was just sending an email full of links to a high school student I know who wants to know more about Civil Right History. In amongst them, I encouraged her to read Howard Zinn's "A People's History of the United States."

I wish it was required reading for all voters.
I dunno if Sarah Palin is any worse/dumber/scarier than Dan Quayle. But I think I hate her worse because she's female. I can forgive a man for being a fool, but never a woman. She knows better.
Cheers,
B.

1) Funny, that's the same way I think about Obama, only I'd say it a little differently---he scares me to death! LOL Shows how differently we all think about people.RafterRattler wrote:

2) I'm interested in knowing what you considered "outdated religious delusions." If you're referring to true Christianity (not what people claim to be Christianity), I would have to totally disagree with Christianity being outdated or delusional. And if that is what you mean, I'm assuming you've read the Bible and know what true Christianity is---not basing it on what people do and say who claim to be Christians. Just because a person makes errors in judgment (maybe major errors in judgment and decisions) and is a Christian (or Jewish) doesn't mean that their faith is the reason for the bad decisions.
Personally, I'd love some day for there to be a viable third-party candidate, but I'm not sure how that would ever happen.

I'm INTERESTED in which BIBLE VERSION is right ------ I have 14 copies of different bibles in English EACH are different ( Most) are based on the King James version -BUT- non agree or are complete "That's just the New testaments!"WearyOne wrote: I'm interested in knowing what you considered "outdated religious delusions." And YES I have read them ALL......
It surprises me how many people that SAY they are "CHRISTIAN" only practice it on one day per week or Less.

If you have 14 copies that you have read, have you ever compared them to see if they say the same thing, but just say it in a different way? (I'm talking translations not paraphrases.) Many Christians have this same issue as they want to make sure they're using the most accurate version. Although I don't have 14, my view from my experience with different translations is I don't see where they are different or incomplete. Worded differently? Of course. Saying opposite things? No. (And I'm referring to translations, not paraphrases.) And the four Gospels that tell the life of Jesus tell it differently not because one or the other is wrong, but because it was told by different people's vantage points, if you will, and told to differing groups of people.Bert_Mathews wrote: I'm INTERESTED in which BIBLE VERSION is right ------ I have 14 copies of different bibles in English EACH are different ( Most) are based on the King James version -BUT- non agree or are complete "That's just the New testaments!"

Also, some versions are translations and some are paraphrases---there is a difference, as a paraphrase isn't translated, but what learned individuals feel the Bible is saying. The Living Bible, for instance, is a paraphrase, not a translation. The Message is a paraphrase from the original language, not a translation. Although as a teenager I loved the Living Bible, I tend now, as I know more, to stay away from paraphrases--just my thinking. I've only used a couple translations myself, but my church (Baptist) uses quite a few different ones. It would take PAGES to discuss how the different translations came about and what they were translated from. (My college-aged son is very knowledgeable about this. Unfortunately, he's in college out of town.) Of the translations I own and have read, they all say the same thing, just in a different way, so they're all right (KJV, NKJV, NIV, Holman, NAS--I personally prefer NKJV and NIV). If your question was truly one of honestly wanting the one that you feel is the most accurate, please IM me, and I will try to find my research (and my son's) on this that might help you make that decision for you. But it might take me a while to pull all the research together.
I agree, it is sad that so many people call themselves Christians, but their lives do not reflect (or at least attempt to reflect) the life Christ says Christians should live EVERY DAY. No one's perfect, but a Christian should always be trying to strive for the life Christ says they should be living. Although I feel I fall way short, I do my best to practice what I believe every day.
This, obviously, isn't a religious forum, but I was just responding to the original statement because I so disturbed me. (Please understand, the poster doesn't disturb me, just the statement made.) After this, I won't continue to post on this topic since it so OT, and the topic is so vast it could last who knows how long.
This is definitely down another long rabbit trail, so pulling it back to the OP: I read somewhere where the two of them might actually get together (Palin and Fey). I saw a picture of them side-by-side and honestly had a hard time telling the difference. I've never been an SNL fan, but Tina sure does a great job on this!
Pam
EDIT: I could sit here and post all day about my salvation and my life, and no one could knowledgeably argue with it because you can't argue with what's happened in my life, what I do in my life, how I live it, what I know to be true. I'm an educated individual, and even run my own successful business (more successful now, even with this economy, than it's been for over 12 years.) Talking religion and politics and hot topics, and I'm well aware that most forums have less conservative-minded members. That's okay. I know that I'm outgunned, so as I said, I won't post anymore about this, no matter how hard it may be for me to keep quiet!

Oh that's easy. None of them. It's all fiction...and the fact that so many people don't get this in this day and age just completely boggles my mind.Bert_Mathews wrote:I'm INTERESTED in which BIBLE VERSION is right ------ I have 14 copies of different bibles in English EACH are different ( Most) are based on the King James version -BUT- non agree or are complete "That's just the New testaments!"

Geez. Here we go...but I guess I opened the box. Yes, I have read the bible. In fact, I was raised in a christian home...and half of my family are still bible thumping evangelical 'christians'. I wasted the first 30+ years of my life believing I was a sinner and in need of salvation. I spent most of my life feeling guilty about who I am and the fact that christianity never made any sense to me - so I never felt 'saved'. It's only now in my later years that I have realized why it never made sense. It's because it DOESN'T make any sense.WearyOne wrote:2) I'm interested in knowing what you considered "outdated religious delusions." I love when people start referring to 'true christianity' and 'true christians' like they are the only right ones. For you to make a statement like that is to prove my point. You have fallen right into the trap of hippocracy that is religion. Everyone believes their way is the right way - which is exactly what has lead to religion's bloody history. I really think it is funny how poeple use the word 'christian' to represent good, moral behavior - when in fact, christianity really means being intolerant, closed minded, condemning and judgemental more than anything else.
Look, this is a no win argument. Believers will never see the non-believer side of it because they are blinded by faith. They will use arguments like 'God has a plan' and 'we can't understand it because it's too far above our level of understanding' to counter arguments of logical thought. This blind faith also allows them to rationalize all the hippocracy, contradictions and nonsense in the bible. In fact, I'm willing to bet that many believers that are reading this are thinking 'what a poor lost soul'. Heck, I have no doubt that my family prays for me every day. Non-believers on the other hand, see all the things that don't make sense, and don't understand how religious people can be so rational in most parts of their lives, and then throw out all logical thought processes when it comes to religion.
When it comes to electing officials, unfortunately the best we'll be able to do is compromise. We can try to elect people that won't let their beliefs influence decisions that can negatively impact another person's right to be happy - such as preventing same sex marriage or taking away a woman's right to choose. We can also try to put aside our fear of the invisible man and support activities that have the potential to move us forward as a society and greatly improve our quality of life - such as stem cell research.
I know I probably offended a lot of folks by this post, but I am sick and tired of religious agendas preventing us from moving forward as a society. We should be teaching our kids to do what is right because it's right, not because they might end up spending eternity burning in some imaginary hellfire. It's time to file the bible in the mythology section of the library where it belongs and start improving the human condition - because it's this life that counts, not the 'next' one.
