Joyce,

Just to put the 13,000 people in perspective, it is really a lot less but those of us participating come back again and again and again.

The number of 13,000 is the number of viewings. My # is probably 120+ so the actual number of different people following the thread may well be around 1000 or so.

Cheers Doug
Thank you Doug for pointing this out, I honestly did not think of it like that when I entered the post. I too, am one who keep coming back and reading this thread over and over. And when I just read what you wrote,

Joyce,

Laryssa's situation means all the more to me because 3 weeks a go I had to fly to New Zealand to be with my own youngest daughter who was in intensive care after a stroke & cerebral hemorrhage. We came pretty close to losing her. We had to sign off before they would operate on her head - an operation they told us would only save her life, not give her one.

Laryssa reminds me a lot of my daughter at that same age. My girl is now out of her dreamland and back with us - not walking yet but despite being told she had lost speech and language (1/5 th of her left lobe), is again talking just this week. She has regained movement of all limbs & we believe will make a pretty close to full recovery. She is even able to talk about all the time she was unable to talk & move but was seeing us all there with her. She can even recall how she was feeling before the stroke enveloped her.

Being faced with a yes/no - let live/let die question that involves a loved child is a real wake up call. All our logical analysis of the situation went right out the window & all we wanted was to do what we could to save her & rehabilitate her. She has rewarded herself and her family magnificently with her progress. We had been told by the neurosurgeon it would be 18 months before he could give us any useful prognosis. Our daughter gave us hers in 2 weeks.
<- that is one big big smile.

So little Laryssa represents another 'little angel' who has a whole life ahead of her. I guess it is not too often a child gets adopted by an Internet forum.

Doug,

I just want to tell you how much I admire you for all the love and support that you and your wife have offered your daughter. I am just so extremely touched by what you have told me. That love in your hearts is what gave her the incentive and the want to fight-for-life that she has. Her knowing how strong that love is and how far you were willing to go for her is what kept her fighting for her life, and to give you back that same love in return. You have good reason for that "great big smile" that you have.

I have two beautiful children that I love dearly and am proud of. I have never been in the situation that you were faced with, but I know that whether they are 3yrs or 30 yrs old, that love only grow stronger with each day and year. And having to make the decision that you were faced with making, only shows how strong that love for your family is. Your love for her and the Lord's love and care will bring her through this, I am sure she will continue to reward you for many years yet to come.

I can better understand now how Laryssa's situation has affected you and touched your heart. When this thread first started, I sometimes would go back in time and remember when my own children were this age. And think to myself, "how hard it must be for a parent who is in that situation to deal with it and make their child well and healthy". Then, I would realize how fortunate that I have been so far, having both my children and grand-children healthy.

I am sure in the years ahead, Laryssa will be aware of all the caring, love and support that she has received here on this forum. And hopefully will be able to communicate with these same people and better yet, be able to meet you personally. An even bigger reason for the "great big smile," wouldnt that be wonderful, to meet her in person and give her a big hug!

Laryssa has given life a whole new meaning on this forum. I think she has made many people realize just how precious life is and how far we would go to preserve that life.

Doug, I am so sorry to hear about your daughter. My deepest hopes for a full recovery. Optimism and love both spring from the human heart---and administered together are surely two of humankind's most potent medicines.

Dear friends,
sorry but I was not logged when answered Dr. Claudia´s message.

She has said first:

Hello Paulo Brasil! Welcome. Do not worry with your English since we have several angels here in the Forum who do the translation of our messages.
My messages are written in Portuguese and I also read the answers with the help of a translator or my friend Nelson Brazilian. But when we talk of love we do not need translation. I am Cláudia Toledo the Dr. Cacau Clawn.
I blue kiss of welcome.

I have replied:

Dr. Cláudia your work is marvellous. Many thanks for your words.
Paulo Brasil.

DSM ,

Dra Cacau,

Your words and kindness are very special. I will tell Anne about you and also tell her that when the wind brushes her face it is a special blue kiss from this wonderful person of love in another country.

Your words of confidence give much meaning to the expressions of support and love flowing in all directions from this magic thread here in this forum. Laryssa's situation really has had such a positive impact. I am personally very delighted that we have two very good outcomes from these situations these girls are in.

Although my 'little' girl is grown up she has always had to stay at home due to having a mild form of Autism called Asperger's Syndrome. She was always an adorable person but could not understand why she was different. It now seems that her 'difference' may be what saved her from loss of language and speech. The evidence is that her speech developed in the opposite side of her brain thus she can still speak again now despite the clear damage to usual speech and language areas (damage from a left side intracerebral hemorrhage).

The past weeks have been very special - following Laryssa's delightful progress and also the amazing recovery of our Anne. Anne is not yet out of danger but everyone's support and the family's determination to hold on to her and her own battling spirit plus the will of God, Anne will win through, of this I am quietly confident. Your flow of love adds a new dimension.

Thank you

DSM

And Claudia (Dra Cacau), a big hug and many kisses to you from Australia and New Zealand.

O importante da amizade não é conhecer o amigo;

O amigo revela, desvenda, conforta.

O amigo é bússola e rota no oceano,
porto seguro da tripulação.

O amigo é o milagre do calor humano
