AutoScan™ 5.7 Software & S8 AutoSet™ II with Easy-Breath

Post by Shilohcane » Wed May 21, 2008 9:07 pm

Well I ordered a S8 AutoSet™ II with Easy-Breathe and ask for the software. The order has AutoScan™ 5.7 Software but I don't see that it supports the S8 AutoSet™ II. This is the link with the support at the bottom.

Problem is from another thead on cpaptalk.com they were talking about ResScan 3.5 for Vista that supports the new S8 AutoSet™ II from this link.

Did I get the right program AutoScan™ (not ResScan )and does it support the S8 AutoSet™ II? I will call ResMed to see if it supports Vista.

The first version of Resmed software to support Vista is Resscan 3.5

I suspect the Autoset II will work with Resscan 3.3 as well but this is unconfirmed.

You may have trouble getting 3.5 in the states at the moment - no one seems to have it there yet.

Thanks bigk

When I talked to the saleman it sounded like he was throwing in the software but I needed a reader for the data card. We were talking about a card reader and he said the data card was half Width. He had a thrid party card reader he said would work but I would have to cut another card to make it work. So I said just throw in the ResMed card reader and it turns out is $115 but comes with the AutoSan 5.7 software.

I found this cpaptalk thread that says AutoScan is discontinued and shows the card reader width problem. If all I getting is the card reader for $115 I am sending it back. This is the old thread on AutoSan and card reader.

First off - Autoscan is the old software, so I'd be surprised if it communicated with the Autoset II. Having said that, they might not have changed much in the data storage settings, so it might read data, but it is unlikely to be able to change settings on the machine - which to my mind is no issue - change them on the machine itself.

The card reader is $69 on cpap.com - which to my mind is a lot for a card reader. I bought one, because I wasn't really interested in fiddling around trying to get a cheapy working.

But I'd say you need Resscan, not Autoscan. $115 for a card reader that costs $69 with obsolete software sounds like a rip off to me.

If you feel like taking a chance that Autoscan can read data from an Autoset II, make sure that you don't pay until it's working.

Colin

I have been researching the Autoset II for my BF, and according to the clinical brochure (see link below), the Autoset II (unlike previous models) has direct USB connectivity, which, if true, should eliminate the need for a card reader.

One source for the 3rd party card reader that is supposed to work with the Resmed card (you can find cheaper if you shop around); picture of how it is modified to use with Resmed card:

Here is a recent discussion of the ResScan software versions and machine compatibility and I think some suggestions where to obtain it:

There is actually a USB adapter you need - it takes the place of the card reader port. It costs about as much as the Card Reader too.

I have both. I find the card reader more convenient.

The cable is also available for the previous models - I didn't want to have to wire my CPAP to my PC because they're in different rooms. I think there might be more functionality on the direct cable though.

As far as I'm aware it has the same USB connectivity option as the existing S8 Autoset Spirit (aka S8 Vantage). If you buy the USB connector module to replace the card reader slot, then you have USB connectivity.

Cheers,

Bill

Bummer about the S8 II series not having a USB port. I was all excited thinking they finally got with the program on that. Thanks for clarifying. I just called Resmed and they too confirmed that the S8 II series *does not* have a USB port (darn misleading brochure).

I doubt that your S8 II will be recognized or recognizable by AutoScan 5.7. My version is dated 1997-2005.

I have the new Resmed VPAP Auto (bi-level in the S8 body, utilizing the H3i integrated humidifier, and the EasyBreathe techonology) and AutoScan will not and can not recognize or acknowledge this VPAP Auto.

I utiilize ResScan 3.4.7 (dated 2003-2007) w/the VPAP Auto.My ResScan 3.2.11 (dated 2003-2006) will not recognize or acknowledge my VPAP Auto.

<sigh> It does have a USB port, you just need to appropriate fitting to access it.
