Help? Vista and Respironics Encore Viewer and card reader
Installing "Encore Viewer" does not install the drivers needed to recognize the USB card reader (even though during the process I can select them and it says it installs it). The CD that came with the card reader won't install unless it detects Encore Pro which is no longer sold to the public.
So far, no luck.

I am curious to know if the light on your card reader comes on when you plug it into the USB port. I just installed my EncoreViewer software yesterday. It "appeared" to have installed the driver for the card reader since it warned me at the start that I should allow installation of the drivers despite the warning that would pop up, but then the software doesn't recognize that the card reader is present. I would think the little light on the drive would light up the minute it was plugged in, whether the drivers are installed or not, and mine does not light up no matter which computer I plug it into, nor does the Windows system "ding" like it does usually when it finds new hardware. I assumed my drive is defective for those reasons, have contacted DirectHome for a replacement (although they have not bothered to respond at this point), and so I wanted to ask you what happens to your drive when you plug it in. Does the light come on so that you know it is functional and yet the software says it is not present?
Thank you!
Peggy

The driver that works with XP at least can be found at
http://www.two-factor.com/shop/index.php?productID=115
Make sure you get the encore pro one.
I don't know Vista and sure don't want to know it, but with XP you have to reboot after the install on many devices.

Well, that proves my drive definitely is defective then. I've got decent software, I assume (hard to tell with no data to work with), and no drive. You've got a functioning drive and no driver. Either scenario, we're both sucking wind here, aren't we? I wonder if the driver on my CD is the one you need for your software. Does it matter what version we have of the software? Mine is 1.0.0.003.

Again, I can only speak for XP (and my older version of Encore Pro) but there were 2 separate installs - one for Encore Pro and one for the Card Reader. They are not both installed at the same time. You might need to find the driver on the CD to install the reader or try the one I have posted above.
I assume that is your version of Encore Viewer Peggy - It is still version 1.0.

I have Vista and the Encore Viewer software and card reader installed fine, after it did not at first. Here's what happened.
I followed the advice somewhere on this board to plug the USB card reader in first before the software install. I did that, and after I plugged it in a window popped up asking to find the driver (as I recall). I left that window alone, and then installed the EncoreViewer software. During the installation of the software, the driver window that was sitting there suddenly said it was happy and was now installing the driver software... so that sequence seemed to work.
But then I started the new software, and inserted a card and the light on the card reader did not turn green, just stayed red.
By chance, I unplugged the reader, and restarted the software, and plugged the reader back in, and this time it turned green and read the card, and all has been fine since.

I've got no light at all unfortunately, red or green. The danged thing is completely dead! And still no response from DirectHome, but I'm trying not to panic yet since I saw other postings that they are not exactly *fast* but they do eventually respond.
Thanks for the tips, though! When I finally get a functional reader, I will follow your advice if I have problems.

I have had the SAME problems with Vista and this software. I still do not have it working. However, I did get the card reader downloaded after many trials. I had to download the driver before the software. There was a read-me file that explains exactly how to do that download on the encore pro software, open up the driver files and that is where it was.. But now, I cannot get the software program to download. It is having an error with SQL download and stops at that point. The funny thing is that I did have it working at one point. I asked for help on this board and had already tried everything they suggested.. so I am in the same boat and kinda ticked over the whole non-success and many days trying.
If you DO get it all to work, please let me know how you did it???
PS, the card reader did read green when it was actually working until the computer "lost" the whole set-up.

For Vista and EncorePro, you have to install a different driver - it didn't come with the card reader, it was in the EncorePro install folder in a sub-folder labelled "Vista". I just pointed the driver installer to that folder. EncoreViewer may be similar.

I had the software installed first before the card reader on Vista. The software worked fine. The card reader did not. So uninstalled the software and installed the card reader.. looks fine.. but now the software will not install at all. It keeps coming up with an error installing the sql server.. Help anyone?
Brooke
Brooke,
Exactly what and how did you uninstall? If you uninstall the usual way via control panel/uninstall programs, if you only uninstall EncorePro and not SQL Server, you would get an error if you try to reinstall both. If you have EncorePro, I think there's an option to install only EncorePro and not SQL Server. If you didn't uninstall SQL Server, try installing only EncorePro.

You wouldn't happen to have the card reader plugged into a "hub", would you?pjwalman wrote:I've got no light at all unfortunately, red or green. The danged thing is completely dead! It needs to be plugged directly into the computer.
Encore Viewer is working on other computers with MS Vista.
You don't have to download another driver from two-factors......the drivers that are included in the Encore Viewer software include the ones for Vista.

That's a good thing to mention since lots of people use hubs, Den, but I'm afraid that's not the answer for me personally. I have more than one computer at home so tried plugging it into another one just to make sure it's not a bad USB issue, and the light doesn't come on no matter which computer I try. It's just a plain old dead reader. Luckily another one is on its way from DirectHome.
I'm not having any issues with the driver that I know of. That was someone else that had that problem. Since I don't have a functional reader at this point, of course I'm not sure, but my install seemed to go just fine, and I'm not anticipating any further problems once I get my replacement drive.
Thanks for helping with the troubleshooting!
